Lenovo Y460 Review: Switchable Graphics & Display Shine

Despite some shortcomings, the IdeaPad Y460 is a good portable entertainment notebook that can handle movies, games and video editing. For $999 as equipped it provides a great deal of value; allowing a user to have one notebook that adapts to their needs by switching between integrated and dedicated graphics. If you are looking for a portable entertainment notebook that can ramp up to handle intense tasks when needed you should add the Y460 to your list.

Those looking for a portable multimedia notebook with strong enough graphics performance to play demanding games will find a lot to like in the IdeaPad Y460. However, at $1,049, it’s a bit expensive for a multimedia system that doesn’t have Blu-ray or a high-res screen. Some may prefer the heavier 15-inch Samsung R580, which comes standard with a Blu-ray reader and costs more than $200 less. And if gaming is your main goal, you might want to go for the 15-inch Acer Aspire 5740G ($749). But if you care about mobility and don’t want to sacrifice power, the Y460 is a high-quality notebook.

Portability, excellent performance, and a bold, eye-catching design are all good reasons to choose the Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 as your next thin-and-light notebook. Unfortunately, the whole point of switchable graphics is to offer the choice between performance and battery life, but for this notebook, the best battery life you can get is still pretty short, making this a moot point.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650: Scheda grafica di media classe per DirectX 11 con un consumo di energia in media di 15-20 Watt. Supporta Eyevision (fino a 6 monitors)

Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.

Intel Core i3:

330M: La Core i3-330M è una 350M con un clock inferiore e di conseguenza manca della feature Turbo Boost ed ha un clock con un massimo di 2.13 GHz. Grazie all'Hyperthreading, possono essere processati 4 threads contemporaneamente. Nel pacchetto sono inclusi anche una scheda grafica integrata (GMA HD 3150) ed un controller di memoria DDR3.

14.0": I display da 14 pollici sono un misto tra i formati piccoli dei subnotebooks ed i 15 pollici dei display standard. La ragione per cui così tante persone preferiscono displays con dimensioni medie dipende dal fatto che tale dimensione non crea particolari problemi alla vista, non richiede troppa energia ed i portatili riescono ad avere dimensioni abbastanza compatte.
