Thanks to the accurate mouse pointer, the N5 works well to get around many of the issues associated with using touchscreens with Windows operating systems. A fast SSD and 1GB RAM helps to speed up the experience too. Windows 7 Home Starter seems to work without any hitches at all. Battery life isn’t the best for the weight but at about 4 hours, it’s a good balance for a device with a full keyboard weighing just 400gm/14 oz.

With its comfortable keyboard, gorgeous design, colorful screen, strong battery life, and snappy app opens and video playback, the N5 makes a compelling argument for ultramobile PCs. You can visit any Flash-enabled web site (even Hulu) and use your favorite desktop applications, from Hootsuite for tweeting to Microsoft Office to a full browser on a device that fits in your pocket. But for $649, we wish that the N5 had a better webcam, a video-out option, and longer battery life. If you can live with these trade-offs, this UMPC is worth a look.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 500:

Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

Z520: CPU single core energeticamente efficiente con prestazioni molto contenute. Offre maggiori features (risparmio energetico, VT-x) rispetto alla serie N Atoms.
