799,90 euro per Xiaomi 12 e 699,90 euro per Xiaomi 12X al lordo di promozioni e street price. 100 euro di distanza per due telefoni che confermano senza ombra di smentita una qualità costruttiva ottima e che hanno piccoli dettagli tecnici che li differenziano. Dà molto fastidio invece la resa dei video registrati in HDR su Xiaomi 12. E stupisce anche molto, visto che, a memoria, ricordiamo qualità superiori in uno Xiaomi 11T Pro di sei mesi fa. Questa debolezza pesa relativamente perché pensiamo sarà poco usata: tra l’altro, Telegram e WhatsApp non riescono a portarsi dietro l’HDR10+ dell’HEVC (HLG, sì), quindi i filmati o li si vede sul proprio schermo di casa, o su quelli del telefono o li si carica su YouTube, ma diventa inutile passarli agli amici via chat.

Xiaomi 12X è uno smartphone che cerca di offrire un'ottima esperienza a un prezzo inferiore rispetto agli attuali top di gamma. Si fa riferimento a un costo di 699,90 euro, ben 400 euro in meno rispetto al prezzo di partenza di Xiaomi 12 Pro. Soprattutto in virtù della collocazione del suo cartellino, quindi, questo modello potrà risultare interessante per un certo tipo di utente. Non a caso sotto la scocca c'è un processore Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, che, se da un lato potrebbe far storcere il naso a qualcuno, in realtà rivela ancora delle buone prestazioni complessive. Non mancano, poi, un ottimo display AMOLED con refresh rate di 120 Hz, la ricarica a 67W e un comparto connettività completo di Wi-Fi 6 e 5G. L'autonomia è nella media, mentre da non sottovalutare sono peso e dimensioni inferiori rispetto a molti competitor.

Xiaomi 12X arriva in Italia a partire da domani 16 marzo ad un prezzo di 699 Euro per l'unico taglio di memoria previsto da 8/256 GB di memoria. Dal 24 marzo sarà disponibile anche online su mi.com e Amazon.it con una promo di lancio di 48 ore a 599 Euro. In questi casi le dinamiche del mercato sono prevedibili e la promo di lancio suggerisce quello che verosimilmente sarà il prezzo dello smartphone dopo alcune settimane, un posizionamento che però è destinato ulteriormente a scendere nello street price, sostenuto dalla presenza dello Xiaomi 12 che invece proverà a mantenere il punto di prezzo. In altre parole probabilmente non sarà complicato trovare Xiaomi 12X sotto i 500 Euro entro l'estate. Se fosse grande quanto la media degli smartphone usciti negli ultimi tempi allora Xiaomi 12X non avrebbe poi così tanto da aggiungere, ma le sue dimensioni e il buon funzionamento generale sono un occasione ghiotta per tutti coloro che non vogliono buttarsi sulla mela morsicata, non hanno voglia di spendere eccessivamente e soprattutto non si vogliono rassegnare ai padelloni, scommettiamo che non saranno pochi!

So let’s wrap up this Xiaomi 12X review. In spite of its mesmerizing design that is to die for, I’m afraid I can’t recommend this phone that easily. I wanted to like this phone so bad but above all, my biggest issue with the 12X is that it somehow doesn’t feel like a confident standalone phone. Instead, it has hints of the classic marketing technique where a company intentionally makes a product look less appealing to sell something more expensive. Going by Xiaomi’s recommended retail pricing, the 12 and 12X are just 100 dollars apart. For that added cost, you’re getting the latest flagship processor that’ll age a lot better, the newest software with guaranteed updates, wireless charging, and a few other touch-ups. And you know what, all this could easily be worth the extra money to most people. Yet, if that doesn’t apply to you, and you’re just looking for a compact yet capable Android phone, then the Xiaomi 12X is still a decent buy. No, it’s not a great value-for-money device that we usually expect from Xiaomi.

The more I'm using the Xiaomi 12X, the more I'm appreciating the form factor. Thanks to its curved screen, it fits perfectly in the hand, even when using the transparent case that comes with it, and I absolutely love the fingerprint-rejecting etched glass back. I was even able to find remedy for the awful edge touch rejection I've experienced by decreasing the sensitivity in settings. It baffles me that the phone doesn't ship with that option enabled by default, as I haven't noticed any downsides like rejected intentional touches on the sides of the screen. Of course, most of these things can probably be said about regular Xiaomi 12 that comes in the same form factor but with a better processor, a newer Android version, and wireless charging, so this isn't a unique selling point. In fact, everything I really like about the 12X can also be found on the regular 12, which is arguably a better phone. My conviction that the 12X only exists to tempt you to get the 12 instead has just been strengthened this past month.

First, the device is on the smaller side compared to other flagship smartphones and despite its $649 price, it looks and feels like a well-made and premium device. While you aren’t getting the latest chip from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 870 is still plenty powerful for everyday tasks. Plus you’re still getting a 120Hz AMOLED display, fast 67W charging and a set of cameras that works well in most situations. There are some downsides to the Xiaomi 12X like the lack of wireless charging, official waterproofing and MIUI won’t be to everyone’s tastes. If you want better cameras, look to the Pixel 6, otherwise the Realme GT 2 will be an excellent choice if your heart isn't set on a metal and glass design.

The Xiaomi 12X is a brand-new phone, and as it always happens, aging flagships are now cheaper and sometimes a preferable purchase over the 12X. Still, the Xiaomi 12X is an easily likable smartphone with a reasonable price in 2022 terms, and we think it has everything to become a best-seller. Our suggestion for you is to exhaust all options around the €650-€700 price range, weigh the pros and cons, and then proceed to buy what suits you best. We are sure you will like the Xiaomi 12X as we did if you decide to get it. We do recommend this phone even at this price, though we will do it even more passionately when it gets its first price cut.
