EN→IT Archive.org versionA Toshiba laptop served as my travel workhorse for several years back in the day. I liked it, but haven’t since used another of the company’s machines. That wasn’t for any particular reason—it was just the way things worked out. However, if the E45W-C4200X is any indication of what the company is up to these days, I may have been missing out.

EN→IT Archive.org versionThe Toshiba Radius 14 doesn’t have many competitors. While there are 2-in-1 devices sold at or below $500, almost all of them have a 10-inch or 11-inch display, and most use Intel Atom processors (or similar) rather than Intel Core. Dell’s Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 stands out as the nearest alternative.

EN→IT Archive.org versionAt a manufacturer's suggested price of $585, the Satellite Radius 14 has a hard time competing with its less expensive 2-in-1 competition. But at $500 from Best Buy, things get a lot more interesting. At that price you're getting a lot of laptop for the money, including a big 14-inch screen, decent battery life and good CPU performance.

EN→IT Archive.org versionIf Toshiba's Satellite Radius 14 had an IPS screen at its low price, this would be nearly a rave review. As is, its best features are its comfortable keyboard, easy-to-use touch pad with quiet clicks, good overall strength, and high-quality Harman/Kardon speakers. It's also a solid everyday performer thanks to its Core i3 processor and 6GB of RAM, although the 500GB hard drive was slow enough to make us feel impatient.

Intel HD Graphics 5500:
