Just because it’s not a wise upgrade doesn’t mean it’s not a good phone. Samsung is still at the top of the game, with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 flexing upon all other Android phone makers through its physical construction and software polish. In the generative AI arena, Only Google has something powerful enough to trounce Galaxy AI. The rivals' foldables are also not IP48 water-and-dust resistant. For now, Samsung holds firm with a complete package — inside and out, folded and unfolded, if you can stomach the higher price point.

Would I recommend you buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 for $1,900? No. I love the concept of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. It's a great smartphone to experience content. I love using it for work, taking notes, and multi-tasking as Samsung excels in those departments. However, I don't want to reward Samsung for twiddling its thumbs for the last three years, simply because no one else can compete with it. The camera department hasn't evolved in two years. Performance still lags behind other, less expensive high-end smartphones. The same goes for the charging speed. As for the design, frankly, it hasn't evolved enough in my opinion. I tear my hair out when I see some reviews devote three paragraphs to the fact that the Z Fold 6 is 14 grams lighter. Isn't that insane? Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is the best foldable smartphone on the market, there is no question about it.

As for the question of should you buy the Galaxy Z Fold6 or not, this depends on your personal preference. I personally still think that this form factor is unique. We can use the cover display to do quick replies and whatnot with just one hand, and the unfold it into a bigger display to do more serious things or just watch videos. Samsung’s One UI complements and synergizes with the form factor, making it a very holistic experience. Yes, it’s not perfect as many apps still do not scale properly for the Z Fold6, but there are many other apps that are adapting to this interface. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 reviewSamsung Galaxy Z Fold6 review I still think that the Z Fold6’s new boxy design is a plus point, but everything under the hood is pretty incremental compared to the previous generation. I hope the next generation gets a big improvement, but this is what we have for this generation. If you’re interested in getting the Z Fold6, I’ll have links down in the description so that you can get the best deals possible.

There's no denying that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is an impressive piece of hardware. I was taken with the Galaxy Z Fold 6's lightweight build and elegant design from the moment I picked it up, and I'm delighted to see that the crease isn't as distracting as it used to be. By raising the Galaxy Z Fold's price, it feels like Samsung is giving up on trying to make book-style foldables mainstream. The company clearly sees the Z Fold as a premium device that customers will be willing to pay top dollar for, and it seems content to continue in that direction rather than making the Z Fold more accessible. For that higher price, I'd like to see more unique software features made just for the Galaxy Z Fold and improvements to charging speeds and battery life.

Don’t get me wrong, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is still a good foldable, a great one even. It’s got excellent performance, strong battery life and handy features like native stylus support. But it feels like after all this time sitting fat and happy on its throne, Samsung has a diminished hunger for total domination. Instead of long-awaited features like a built-in S Pen or an improved under-display camera, we got a bunch of AI-powered tools and tricks, which are fun but not true highlight attractions.

There's nothing necessarily wrong with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. If you prefer One UI and want to upgrade to a foldable, this phone marks a fine entry point to the space. But it's also a device that reeks of arrogance on Samsung's part. Sure, it's lighter and thinner than last generation, but those are practically the only upgrades you'll spot. Meanwhile, competition both global and stateside continues to grow, all while Samsung admits to struggling to convince non-foldable owners to, you know, buy a $1,900 smartphone. Like the last couple of Fold generations before it, this phone feels like yet another stepping stone towards some inevitable endpoint for this hardware, with just enough changes to advertise it as new and improved.

Considering that Galaxy AI has already come to last year’s Samsung foldables, I’m not counting that as a reason for people to fork out on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The refinement of the design and generally tighter build are both positives but I remain unconvinced that they warrant the extra £50 – on top of what was already an exorbitant price tag. I know that it sounds like I’ve already written the Galaxy Z Fold 6 off but we’ll reserve final judgement for the full review. Display testing, performance benchmarks, camera samples and battery life results may well end up being so impressive that they claw back a positive review. After this first hands-on, however, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 feels like Samsung is asking too much and delivering too little.

Is the Galaxy Z Fold6 the new global poster child for book-style foldables? Almost certainly. Performance is as good as it gets in foldable land and productivity is still unmatched, thanks to S Pen support and some clever AI features. But I think it earns that status more because of the brand making it than the hardware inside. If the Fold6 wore something other than a Samsung logo, I’d be tempted to call it an also-ran. Rivals have it licked for slim dimensions, battery life, charging speeds, and camera sensors that get close to the best non-folding flagships. All you’re getting here is a more powerful chipset, slightly neater design, and some small but welcome improvements to each screen. For an $1800/£1800 gadget, I’m not sure that’s good enough.

The lack of real competition isn't helping the Galaxy Z Fold get better faster - Samsung is enjoying a rather trouble-free position in the large foldable space, and it's showing. The Galaxy Z Fold6 has the same cameras as the Fold4 from two years ago, and that's not a good look, alright as they may be. The slow charging is a long-standing issue of the Galaxy roster, and instead of improving on it, the latest model is somehow even slower. The cover display is inching towards usable size and proportions, but it's not entirely there yet and is taking its sweet time. The crease on the inside isn't too bothersome, but it's still more pronounced than essentially anything else in the foldable space.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 is absolutely a worthy successor to the Fold 5. That said, the competition in the foldable space has become fierce, so you can say there's some pressure riding on the Z Fold 6 release. With a new, lighter, thinner and more durable design, as well as state-of-the-art performance and software support, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is, without a doubt, a terrific option for users looking to grab a capable and well-supported foldable smartphone.

As you might have guessed by now, the Galaxy Z Fold6 doesn't innovate or reinvent the Galaxy Z Fold. Instead, it feels like a more polished version of Galaxy Z Fold5. Of course, we will test the phone before we share our final thoughts on Samsung's latest foldable phone. In case you missed it, the Galaxy Fold6 has launched in Malaysia with prices starting from RM7299 and will be available later this month via Samsung Malaysia's website, brand stores, and authorised resellers. Samsung’s latest flagship foldable plays it safe with a wider cover display, an upgraded hinge, improved IP48 dust and water resistance, top-shelf performance and enhanced Galaxy AI capabilities though the cameras enjoy few upgrades. As it stands, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 remains the premier flagship foldable for power users and especially those who have yet to own a foldable or own an older Fold or Flip series phone.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 gets an impressive array of hardware upgrades, key among them the obligatory processor update to this year’s most powerful Qualcomm chipset – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor. Clocked to be faster than a stock Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the ‘for Galaxy’ SoC is the same hardware powering this year’s Galaxy S24 series. Tto ensure consistent sustained performance especially under heavy loads, the Fold6 also gets a 60% larger vapour chamber to more efficiently vent heat from the processor. For this generation, the Galaxy Z Fold6 gets 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and your choice of 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

With the help of S Pen, Sketch to Image was able to use Galaxy AI to replace a gnarly doodle from our Notes app into four different art styles, each offering alternative designs to choose from. While it's not going to win us any reputable awards (it's AI art, after all), Sketch to Image worked swiftly at giving us the necessary visuals to help improve our note-taking quality. It doesn't take a lot of time, too, since it only needs about ~20 seconds to generate a bunch of choices for you.

The Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 share the same processor, specs and even the camera systems are so similar (with the exception of the zoom camera that you only get on the Fold). So the fundamental Samsung experience is definitely similar. The main difference have everything to do with the form factor. The big, book-style Galaxy Fold 6 is great for productivity and multitasking, as you can have three windows open and a floating window, plus it's easier to add AI on top of that. The Flip 6, on the other hand, has evolved but because of its smaller size, it is not so much about productivity as it is about delivering a fast experience in a flip form factor, and we know that it's especially loved amongst the ladies too.

Coming to the Flip 6, the clamshell-style foldable from Samsung gets some major bumps this year. Starting with the main camera, the Flip 6 gets a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a larger 4,000mAh battery compared to 3,700mAh on the Flip 5. Both the new foldable get IP48 water resistance. The crease on the Flip 6 is almost invisible, as, during hands-on time with the device, we scrolled through the device and could barely notice the crease. The display seems decent, and the upgraded camera is excellent for the Flip 6.

Samsung upgraded the cameras and battery on the Z Flip 6, while bringing a slew of Galaxy AI features to both its foldables this year. But it seems like again, the biggest changes to the Z Fold 6 might be in its AI features. Senior reporter Sam Rutherford took a closer look at what's coming to Samsung's latest generation of foldable

Based on my short hands-on time, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 seems better than its predecessor, the Z Fold 5, in almost every way. Design-wise it feels like a big leap forward – this now feels like a 'normal' phone that just happens to split open to reveal a big main-screen wonder. The AI features look genuinely useful, but on the downside there's not much that's new in the cameras department, and the price remains a barrier to entry for many.

Generally speaking, I'm getting bored of phones with iterative upgrades from one generation to the next, but Samsung makes mostly the right moves with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. I appreciate the thinner and lighter design, the (slightly) wider cover display and brighter main 7.6-inch screen. I also appreciate the AI features on board the Z Fold 6 for productivity and entertainment, even if some feel a bit gimmicky. And while it will take some time to test, the durability improvements are welcome.

Will the Galaxy Z Fold 6 put Samsung back at the top of the foldable category over excellent rivals like the OnePlus Open? It’s too early to say for sure, but this certainly feels like a bigger upgrade than last year. The changes to the footprint of the device are small, yet should make the Z Fold 6 more pleasant to use whether it’s folded or unfolded.

Like the Flip 6, the latest Fold comes with seven years of operating system and security updates. Samsung believes you should get decent use out of the foldable phone, backing the use of Armor Aluminium and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to improve its durability. Based on past iterations, the Fold is a device with a specific productivity niche. Last year’s Fold 5 impressed us, and the claim of improved durability addresses previous complaints levelled at the form factor.

We enjoyed our time with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and that, in itself, is usually a good sign. It's a good deal more expensive than the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and we'll concede now that nearly £2000 is a lot to spend on a smartphone – even one that can do all of the fancy things of which the Fold is capable. If it can deliver on its many promises, though, the signs are good. AI powers combined with some high-end internal hardware and that mighty display certainly coalesce to create a tempting proposition and, while we always need more time with any product to appreciate truly its pros and problems, our initial impressions were of a smartphone that has its sights set on the very top of the pile.

It's kind of hard to innovate each and every year and we've kind of gotten used to phones bringing more or less incremental upgrades. This is definitely the case with the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. Still, there are some nice little additions to the mix and tweaks here and there this year. We like the design refinement on both phones. The Z Fold6 has an improved and more natural aspect ratio on the cover display and the Z Flip6, is now closer than ever to the mainstream Galaxy S line with a bigger battery and better main camera.

Every summer, Samsung's Unpacked event brings the latest iteration of the company’s foldable devices, smartwatches, and earbuds. This year, it’s all about AI and its integration with the Galaxy Z series. Here’s everything announced at Samsung Unpacked 2024. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 joins Samsung’s foldable lineup, mirroring the boxy flattened design of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The device sports the same 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with a resolution of 2160 x 1856 and a 6.3-inch cover display, which both support 120Hz. The main difference here is that both displays lose the rounded corners found in previous Z Fold phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 costs $2,564 CAD, an increase from the Z Fold 5, which costs $2,399. At face value, even with all the upgrades, I can’t say whether the Z Fold 6 is worth the price increase, but I’m interested in finding out. The Z Flip 6 also increased to $1,462.99 from $1,299. Again, I can’t say if this price increase is worth it without putting the handset through its paces, but considering it mostly received quality-of-life updates, I doubt it. I love foldable smartphones, so I will spend a lot of time with both handsets, especially the Z Fold 6. I’m curious to see whether the wider screen is enough to make it stand out against the OnePlus Open. I would also like to see if the Z Flip 6 can compete against the Moto Razr+.

We are definitely expecting a high-quality foldable from Samsung this year. The competition has become fierce, so you can say there's some pressure riding on the Z Fold 6 release. If the design makes it more pocketable, if there are no issues with thermals, and if the camera performance is touched up a bit — we think it will be a very, very solid entry in the foldable space.
