Surface Laptop 3 costa tanto, con alcune eccezioni date dai modelli entry level che sono però limitati da uno storage via SSD da soli 128 Gbytes di capacità, ma offre molto a chi lo acquista. E' un notebook che si adatta al meglio alle esigenze di chi vuole un PC portatile che abbina potenza a facilità di trasporto, con un design curato e una robustezza complessiva che porta a pensare di poterlo avere come compagno di lavoro per lungo tempo.

Despite a handful of shortcomings, the Surface Laptop 2 was one of our favourite devices of last year, thanks to a sleek design and capable performance. The third entry in the series has addressed the main niggles that we had, and aside from lacklustre performance in the Core i5 model, there’s really not much at all to complain about. As far as do-it-all business laptops go, the Surface Laptop 3 is one of the better examples we’ve seen. Portable, well-built and decently powerful at the top end, the Surface Laptop has surpassed the MacBook Air and is now on track to challenge the MacBook Pro.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 seems painfully plain on paper. There's no second screen, no graphics card, no hybrid hinge, and even no fingerprint scanner. But Microsoft has put so much attention to detail into every part that matters, this ends up one of the best Windows laptops at any price.

Finally, as this is a Surface device, numerous weird bugs have come and gone throughout my testing period. I’ve already mentioned the display auto brightness bug, but I’ve also seen aggressive battery drain, fans ramping to 100 percent while charging, and the trackpad randomly stop scrolling in apps. Most of these bugs go away after fully shutting down the laptop and restarting it, but they are all frustrating things to experience in the first week of using a brand-new laptop. Microsoft typically does update its Surface devices with bug fixes and patches on a regular basis, so hopefully things will have settled down a few months from now, but right now, the Laptop 3’s experience can be hit-or-miss.

Overall, this is an expected upgrade but one Surface Laptop fans will appreciate. One of the best Windows 10 alternatives to the MacBook Air and Pro 13, though the likes of the Dell XPS 13 also do a good job at filling that spot. The Surface Laptop 3 15 is a proper MacBook Pro rival and a top addition to the Surface family; a few more ports and an SD card reader would have been ideal though, mind you, not in keeping with the clean aesthetic Microsft is going for.
