We like the build quality of the EliteBook 8740W. It's definitely not a unit that will fall apart easily as you transport it to and from the office. It's made out of metal and its hinges are tough. If you're in the market for a mobile workstation with lots of CPU power, RAM and hard drive capacity, and most importantly, an excellent screen, the 8740W is definitely one to consider.

Of course, the Nvidia Quadro 5000M—a high-end Fermi GPU with 320 CUDA cores and a memory bandwidth of 76.8GB/s—does much more than just play games. To test the 8740w’s capabilities as a graphics workstation, we ran the SpecViewperf11 OpenGL-based workstation benchmark on the notebook. While the 8740w made an impressive showing on SpecViewperf11’s individual tests, its overall performance didn’t quite measure up to what you could expect from even a relatively less-expensive desktop workstation.

HP: Fondata nel 1939, l'azienda statunitense è un importante produttore di server e stampanti e una delle aziende IT leader a livello mondiale. Fino al 2015, la società si chiamava Hewlett-Packard Company. Dopo una scissione, la divisione computer è stata ribattezzata HP Inc.

Nel 2023, HP deteneva una quota di mercato approssimativa del 22% delle vendite globali di PC, diventando così il numero 2 dopo Lenovo.

Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.

NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800M: Scheda grafica professionale per workstation con drivers certificati. Basata sul core GeForce GTX 280M. Paragonata alla FX 3700M, la FX 3800M sfrutta una velocità clock superiore ed è realizzata in 55nm.

NVIDIA Quadro 5000M: Scheda grafica per workstations mobile basata su Fermi con RAM ECC e supporto DP floating point. Dovrebbe basarsi sul chip GF100 / GeForce GTX 480M con meno shaders.

840QM: Il Core i7-840QM è una CPU quad core di fascia alta per portatili che ha clocks grazie al Turbo Mode da 1.86-3.2 GHz. Di conseguenza, il processore combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. L'Hyperthreading consente un utilizzo simultaneo di 8 Threads in parallelo.

820QM: La Core i7-820QM è una CPU quad core di fascia alta per portatili, con un clock che grazie al Turbo Mode arriva a 1.73-3.06 GHz. Di conseguenza, il processore combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. L'hyperthreading consente l'utilizzo simultaneo di 8 Threads in parallelo.

920XM: La CPU più veloce del 2009 nei portatili Core i7 ma con un TDP di 55 Watt che la rende assetata di energia. Grazie al Turbo Mode, la CPU può girare fino a 3.2 GHz. A causa dell'Extreme tag, il moltiplicatore non è bloccato, e di conseguenza la CPU va facilmente in overclock.

740QM: Il Core i7-740QM è una CPU quad-core di fascia alta per portatili (nel 2010) con un clock rate di base relativamente contenuto ed una elevata frequenza massima di Turbo Boost di 2.93 GHz (per un core). Pertanto, combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. Rispetto alle più veloci CPUs Core i7 mobile, la 740QM ha solo 6MB di L3 Cache.
