EN→IT Archive.org versionWhen we heard that Asus was incorporating Intel's robust Atom Z3745 processor into its entry-level Memo Pad 7 droid, it was hard not to get excited. After all, it's the same processor that can power full-fledged Windows tablets, and at a competitive price it has the potential to provide unparalleled power for this market segment.

EN→IT Archive.org versionFor most use cases, the Asus MeMO Pad 7 is a good tablet: nothing amazing, nothing spectacular, just a stock standard tablet that’s good enough for its $150 price point. I was most impressed by the tablet’s display, which may only have a resolution of 1280 x 800, but packs decent color quality that can be adjusted to your liking through Asus’ Splendid application. We’re not quite at the stage where 1080p displays have transitioned to sub-$200 devices, so at this price there’s really nothing to complain about.

EN→IT Archive.org versionAt £120, what’s not to like about the new MeMO Pad 7? It’s powerful, well made, frugal with power and has a pretty good camera for a tablet. The only criticism you can really make is that the screen resolution could be higher but in everyday use, that wasn't a failing I noticed. Oh, and it runs a wee bit hot sometimes. So, is the MeMO Pad 7 really the best affordable tablet you can buy? Yes: it’s much cheaper than the LG G Pad 8.3 or Google’s Nexus 7 and feels more grown up than the Tesco Hudl.

EN→IT Archive.org versionThe Asus MeMO Pad 7 is a pleasant surprise. It's a great tablet for the price, with good performance and battery life. Just as the Google Nexus 7 reinvented what we expected for tablets under £200, the Asus MeMO Pad 7 changes what we'd expect from a £120 tablet. We'd be tempted to find another £50 for the superior Nexus 7, but if you’re looking to pick up a competent tablet for little money, it's a fantastic choice.

EN→IT Archive.org versionIf you only have $150 for your next tablet, the Asus Memo Pad ME176CX is the best A-brand device you can get right now for that kind of money. It's a nice looking slate with a good screen, decent battery life and fast hardware, but it's not without flaws, as you'll find out from this review.

EN→IT Archive.org versionFor one thing, the tablet is remarkably sturdy, despite weighing only a little more than half a pound and being a mere 0.38 inches thick. It doesn’t look particularly flashy, but ASUS gives the device a little flair by offering it in multiple colors. And the screen, though not the best we’ve seen, is bright enough and responsive enough for most users.

EN→IT Archive.org versionLast year, Asus seriously impressed us with its Asus Memo Pad HD 7. However, it doesn’t really feel like Asus has moved on much since. The new Asus Memo Pad 7 is clearly a product of the strong relationship between Intel and Asus, because its main improvement is in using the powerful 64-bit Intel Atom Z3745 processor. However, what the tablet really needed to stay ahead of the game was not more power, but more pixels.

EN→IT Archive.org versionAt the end of the day the ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME176C is a pretty decent tablet for $149.00 shipped. The 7-inch IPS LCD Display was found to be crisp with excellent viewing angles. The ASUS ZenUI over Android 4.4 KitKat was slick and best of all the performance was solid. The Intel Atom Z3745 Bay Trail processor is very powerful and could easily handle all the tasks that we threw at this Android tablet. We knew that the MemoPad 7 ME176C would give the Nexus 7 (2013) a run for the money and it easily outperformed the tablet in all the benchmark apps with the exception of one graphics test. It looks like Intel really does have a viable processor now that can take on Qualcomm, ARM and others in the mobile space.

EN→IT Archive.org versionThe Memo Pad 7 comes in yellow, red, black, white or this rather delightful blue model. Overall, we found the design and build of the tablet to be surprisingly solid and attractive for a budget tablet. The bezels are small, and despite being plastic, the back has a smooth, premium-feel finish.

EN→IT Archive.org versionThe sleek styling of the ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME176CX combined with its zippy 1.33-GHz Intel Atom Baytrail processor makes this slate a steal at $149. While the battery life does not live up to last year's model, it's a fine trade-off for the increased performance. Those looking for even more speed and stylus input should take a look at the EVGA Tegra Note 7 tablet, but it's a more expensive $189 and doesn't last as long on a charge.

EN→IT Archive.org versionThe older MeMO Pad HD 7 was one among the first crop of relatively good quality, sub-$200 Android tablets. The new MeMO Pad 7, which is in fact as high-definition as its predecessor, doesn't change much from the original formula. It comes in a more compact package and with a promising Intel processor, but the display can't hold a candle to full-HD panels like the one found on the Nexus 7. Still, at $150, the MeMO Pad 7 is a solid deal and totally capable of performing most of the tasks people demand of a small-screen tablet.

EN→IT Archive.org versionDespite a couple of bumps along the way, though, Asus Memo Pad 7 turns in a highly impressive performance. It's much faster than its big rival, the Tesco Hudl, and its design is more attractive as well. For only £120, this is one seriously impressive tablet, and very good value for money.

EN→IT Archive.org versionAsus has crafted a simple, straight to the point tablet with top-notch build quality and a slim and light chassis. Its specs won't set the world on fire, but it handles everyday tasks well enough. And it's hard to argue with that £119 price tag. If you're after something to surf the web, check your emails and play a few simple games on, Asus' tablet gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

EN→IT Archive.org versionI definitely came away with a positive impression with the ASUS MeMO Pad 7 after my weekend with it. We are planning a more exhaustive story on it in the future; something along the lines of an "extended review" if you will. Gone is the Google Nexus 7 from the backpack and in drops the ASUS MeMO Pad 7. Where will it excel and where will it falter? We'll soon know for sure.
