The Asus EeePC 1001-MU17 is a solid effort from the company that started the netbook craze. It has a very nice keyboard and exceptionally well-adjusted touchpad - factors often overlooked in the netbook purchasing equation. While not ostentatious, it's still sedately handsome, and if you regularly need quick access to the web, the Express Gate can be handy indeed.

Near-instant access to the Web highlights an otherwise standard netbook.In a sea of nearly interchangeable 10.1-inch netbooks, the Asus EeePC 1001-MU17 stands out for one thing: Express Gate, a nearly instant-on auxiliary operating system that allows quick access to the Web, online gaming, Skype, IM, and your photos. If you remember the first Linux-based netbooks, you've got the idea. To boot to Express Gate, you start the 1001-MU17 using a secondary power button (which has no light) on the upper left hand side of the keyboard deck. Booting to Windows 7 Starter is accomplished via the normal lighted power button on the upper right hand side.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Scheda grafica integrata (memoria condivisa) nell'Intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimamente più veloce rispetto ad una vecchia GMA 950 e pertanto non adatta ai giochi 3D o ai video HD (solo accelerazione MPEG2).

Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

N450: CPU Intel Atom per Netbooks con controller di memoria integrato e GPU GMA 3150. LE prestazioni del sistema dovrebbero essere solo minimamente superiori rispetto alla precedente combinazione Atom N280 / GMA 950.
