This is far from an impressive tablet and came as something of a disappointment given Archos' strong legacy in portable entertainment products. The price is a palatable £229, but we think most people will find the BeBook or Creative Ziio better options, while 3G and the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the Linx N700 are not far away, price-wise.

The Archos 101 is a little unwieldy for one-handed use, has an average screen and slightly unresponsive touchscreen, for a capacitive model, but with a tweak or two it's a very versatile and useful entertainment device. We'd recommend waiting for the next generation of tablets to arrive before making a buying decision though, especially when the first-gen iPad's price drop shows that prices could tumble significantly.

Archos has a reasonably priced, well performing and versatile internet tablet on offer with the 101, which despite its faults is ultimately a far more flexible device than the iPad. Apple fans will no doubt exacerbate its weaknesses, and they will have a point if display performance and build quality is a priority, but for those looking to experience the benefits of a lap-based tablet this is one the more compelling devices currently available.

After a week with the Archos 101 XS I find myself rather fond of it. This is thanks mainly to the clever and well executed coverboard design and the keyboard which is impressive for something so thin and light. The tablet part won’t keep the engineers at Asus awake at night, but remember for the price of a Transformer Pad, you can buy an Archos 101 XS and two-thirds of an 8GB Nexus 7.

The Archos 101 XS is a tricky tablet to assess then. On the one hand the screen isn't bright, the build is plasticky and the keyboard is poor. On the other, the price is reasonable, it's powerful and very light. Rather than a direct competitor to the Transformer Pad 300, then, it's best to view this tablet as a good quality budget 10.1incher, with the bonus of a free cover and keyboard. In that light, it isn't bad at all.

There's no doubt that the 101 XS is Archos' best tablet to date and it's a decent attempt to undercut rivals, notably Asus Transformer Pad 300. It's £100 cheaper and the keyboard dock is far less fiddly. However, the dock was reliable only when on a desk in our tests, and other build quality issues surrounding the buttons and screen mean we can't recommend the 101 XS unequivocal.

Compared to the ASUS Transformer Prime with keyboard dock, this device doesn’t quite seem as high quality a final product – but it’s a lot less expensive at the same time at $399, dock included. Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.
