Surface Pro 12 recensione: un nuovo corso per i Pc «Windows on Arm»

La versione da 512 GB costa 1.119 euro. Con tastiera si sale a 1.298 euro, con penna a 1.418. Prezzi che lo mettono in concorrenza con ottimi notebook tradizionali. Il valore c'è, ma è un prodotto di nicchia: perfetto per chi lavora spesso in mobilità e vuole il mix di leggerezza, autonomia e Windows. Meno indicato per chi cerca potenza bruta, schermo grande o massima compatibilità software. Surface Pro 12 è il primo ARM di Microsoft che non sembra un esperimento. È maturo, leggero, solido, bello da usare. Non è economico, non è universale, ma è coerente: un computer personale pensato per scrivere, leggere, prendere appunti, lavorare in viaggio. Se lo trovate a 999 euro con tastiera inclusa, diventa un affare. A prezzo pieno, è un acquisto da ponderare bene.

Da ultimo alcune considerazioni sul costo d'acquisto, che nella versione d'ingresso è di 999,99€: si tratta di un investimento importante per un notebook compatto che rinuncia a offrire prestazioni velocistiche elevate in cambio di una facilità di trasporto molto elevata. Non dobbiamo però dimenticare che a questa cifra è necessario aggiungere anche il costo della tastiera, di fatto un accessorio obbligatorio tutt'altro che a buon mercato, oltre alla Slim Pen per coloro che vogliono utilizzare questa tipologia di dispositivo di input. La risultante è un prezzo, nella configurazione qui provata, che arriva alla soglia di 1.300€ e che pare essere decisamente troppo elevato per un 2-in-1 ben costruito e di elevata qualità ma che mostra limiti evidenti sul piano delle prestazioni. E che non ha, nella sua dotazione base, neppure l'alimentatore per la sua batteria.

Dopo alcuni giorni di utilizzo intenso, posso dire che Surface Pro 12 è il primo dispositivo della famiglia Microsoft che riesce a trovare una nuova identità compatta, senza tradire lo spirito originale della famiglia Surface Pro. Non è un semplice “Pro più piccolo”, né un rimpiazzo diretto del Surface Go, e tantomeno un clone del Pro X. È qualcosa di diverso, di più maturo, pensato con intelligenza per un’utenza che cerca equilibrio tra portabilità, produttività e accesso al mondo Windows, con un prezzo più basso dei Pro da 13 pollici. Microsoft ha avuto il coraggio di semplificare la piattaforma, abbandonando Intel in questa fascia e affidandosi totalmente ad ARM. Il tutto in un design che riesce a essere finalmente comodo anche in mano, e non solo su una scrivania.

The 12-inch Microsoft Surface Pro is clearly a budget play, dropping the price of Microsoft's excellent tablet to less than $1,000. This tablet has the best features of the Surface design—a sleek frame, an integrated kickstand, and intuitive functionality when paired with the keyboard cover. That’s what many are after when shopping for a Surface Pro or comparable device. But the lower price also comes with compromises. The fanless tablet design hampers performance even more than the step-down processor does. The LCD appears sharp and bright, but it falls short of the high-quality standards of OLED. Finally, the battery life is on the short side, competitively speaking, even if it is long-lived enough to carry you through a day. But if you want a device that can do basic tablet stuff and function as a productivity device, then the new Surface Pro 12-inch is worth serious consideration. The combination of strong performance, excellent battery life, a superb sound system, and a good display for under £800 (currently a lot under) is a hard combination to ignore. Granted, the price creeps up a bit when you add a keyboard and pen, and charger, but you will then have a tremendously useful, versatile, and compact Windows device.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 12 is a good, solid laptop/tablet hybrid. It’s got enough power for everyday tasks, excellent battery life and a smart design. The display, while not OLED, is very good, and the kickstand remains one of my favourite design features on any tablet. However, this latest Surface shares many of the same issues that have plagued the series. While it’s great that the starting price is less than the MacBook Air M4 at £799/$799, you’ll need to spend more on the keyboard cover to make this a usable device. An iPad Pro M4 is a great tablet with or without a keyboard added, whereas Windows 11 still needs to be controlled with a trackpad or mouse to get the most from it.The design is a little uninspiring with those chunky screen bezels, and many of the AI features remain underbaked. This is a good entry-level Surface Pro that’d make a great student companion – it’s just not a true successor to the Surface Pro 11.

That's true for both design and build quality, and for performance and battery life. The comparison between the 13-inch and 12-inch models is an interesting one, because the bigger model has an OLED screen, better performance, and an actual charging adapter (this 12-inch model only has a USB-C cable), while not costing a whole lot more: $200 at the time of writing. Of course, you may value portability above everything else, in which case get the smaller one. If you've got an older Surface Pro and are thinking about upgrading, your choice isn't an easy one. It really depends how old your existing model is and how happy you are with its current levels of performance.

Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 1.7 TFLOPS: Un adattatore grafico integrato che il SoC Snapdragon X Plus 8-core X1P-42-100 presenta. Rispetto alle più veloci iGPU X1-85 da 3,8 TFLOPS e 4,6 TFLOPS, questa non solo funziona a velocità di clock inferiori, ma dispone anche di un numero inferiore di shader unificati, con 768 come numero più probabile. L'architettura di base, a quanto pare, non è molto diversa da quella utilizzata nell'Adreno 730. Per quanto riguarda le prestazioni di gioco, è appena sufficiente per i giochi pre-2020 a risoluzioni come HD 720p con impostazioni grafiche basse.

Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.

SD X Plus X1P-42-100: Un system-on-a-chip con architettura ARM relativamente conveniente da utilizzare nei computer portatili Windows, il cui debutto è previsto per il 20 maggio 2024. Si dice che X1P-42-100 abbia 8 core di CPU Oryon (8 core P, 0 core E) che funzionano a una velocità di clock non ancora nota di almeno 3 GHz. Una GPU Adreno da 3,8 TFLOPS, una NPU Hexagon da 45 TOPS, un controller di memoria LPDDR5x-8448 incredibilmente veloce, il supporto USB 4.0, il supporto TB 4 e il supporto PCIe 4 sono molto probabilmente tutti presenti a bordo. Questo chip X Plus non utilizza lo stesso die su cui si basano i modelli X1P-64-100, X1E-78-100, X1E-80-100, X1E-84-100.
