The last time we reviewed a Fujitsu Lifebook Netbook--the M2010--we didn't completely buy the company's educational market pitch, as it seemed to merely offer a package that didn't add up to more than any other Netbook at a price that was significantly higher. Yet another Atom N450 Netbook in a sea of me-too competitors, the awkwardly designed Fujitsu Lifebook MH380 doesn't perform well enough or include anything unique to justify its higher price.

Fujitsu's LifeBook MH380 provides a few unique aspects to the netbook market including a standard 1366x768 resolution display panel and a new scroll wheel funtion. While these provide a different experience for users than the average netbook, performance and battery life are very average. The fact that it is larger and heavier doesn't help in the portability department either. The biggest problem though is the $450 price tag that is well above average.

The LifeBook MH380 is miles better than it predecessor, and while it looks like a gimmick at first, its scroll wheel works relatively well. We also like the comfortable keyboard, ultra-bright HD display, and loud speakers. Among premium netbooks with high-def screens, we prefer the MH380 over the sleeker VAIO W Series ($449) because the Fujitsu machine has a better keyboard.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Scheda grafica integrata (memoria condivisa) nell'Intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimamente più veloce rispetto ad una vecchia GMA 950 e pertanto non adatta ai giochi 3D o ai video HD (solo accelerazione MPEG2).

Queste schede grafiche per portatili non sono adatte al gaming. Anche se dovessero funzionare, ci sarebbero diversi errori grafici e un frame rate molto basso. Questi chips non sono affatto per i gamers! Applicazioni internet e da ufficio, invece non sono problematiche per queste GPUs.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

N450: CPU Intel Atom per Netbooks con controller di memoria integrato e GPU GMA 3150. LE prestazioni del sistema dovrebbero essere solo minimamente superiori rispetto alla precedente combinazione Atom N280 / GMA 950.
