L’Asus ZenBook 3 è davvero un gran portatile. Bello, facilmente trasportabile, agevole nell’utilizzo, offre tanta potenza con cui svolgere il proprio lavoro, anche in presenza di software impegnativi, e con cui svagarsi guardando un film o una serie TV su Netflix (peccato per l’audio al di sotto delle aspettative). Solo i videogiochi di ultima generazione non sono alla sua portata, data l’assenza di una scheda grafica dedicata.

ASUS ZenBook 3 è un prodotto imperfetto ma davvero interessante. L’imperfezione è purtroppo comune nel mondo Windows, dove ancora non è stata trovata la formula giusta per realizzare prodotti senza compromessi – qualche difetto c’è sempre, e spesso è legato alle rifiniture. Come si suol dire, il diavolo fa le pentole ma non i coperchi. Il form factor, il peso e le prestazioni ti fanno venire voglia di non tornare più indietro: ZenBook 3 è comodo, versatile, ultraportatile ma allo stesso tempo veloce per qualsiasi operazione. Basta un giorno con lui nello zaino al posto di un classico notebook, per farci convincere del suo valore.

La portabilità di una macchina così compatta e al tempo stesso comoda è qualcosa che va provato; ho scritto gran parte di questo testo sulla ribaltina di un regionale Roma Termini - Grosseto con la massima praticità. Ne ho fatti di viaggi simili cercando la via per una vita migliore, e vi assicuro che questo Zenbook 3 al momento batte tutti gli Ultrabook con Windows.

Don’t let my remarks on the keyboard put you off – I dwelt on it principally because I was bemused as to why Asus chose non-standard key widths – because it was actually a fine keyboard in use, and one soon gets used to the size and shape.

If you don’t give two figs about Apple and just want a compact Windows machine that’s easy to carry around, well—the ZenBook 3 is really portable. I carried it to and from work on public transit without noticing it too much in my backpack. It performs well, too. So if you can live with just one USB port, there’s a lot to like. If you can’t—well, there are plenty of excellent ultrabook competitors to choose from. You’ll just have to pick a different feature that compromises on something you don’t care about.

Overall, it’s easy to be impressed with the ZenBook 3. The inclusion of a 7th generation i7 CPU in addition to the solid storage specs and attractive design make this an easy recommendation for someone who wants a high performance laptop in a tiny case. We do think ASUS will eventually combine their ZenBook Flip with the ZenBook 3 and just make a tiny 2-in-1. Regardless, ASUS clearly has a winner on their hands and, if you’re skeptical about the blue/gold, don’t be. We loathe anything that screams old money. But the ASUS team won us over. Nicely done.
