The Acer Nitro 5 is a good value for gamers looking to maximum game performance on a slim budget. Nvidia’s RTX 3060 is given the space and power it needs to deliver strong results. For many, this alone will be enough to make the Nitro 5 a contender. However, a number of flaws hold the Nitro 5 back from its full potential. The display isn’t great, the battery is too small, and the Core i5-12500H processor is only at its best in heavily multithreaded workloads. This narrows the Nitro 5’s focus. It’s excellent for gaming, but students and content creators seeking a versatile budget powerhouse will need to keep looking.

Its high-refresh display, powerful graphics card, and hefty chassis give it the performance necessary to run games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider at high framerates without a hitch. While the loaded configuration we tested is a little costly at $1,299, it's well worth the price. However, if you’re looking for a laptop that is good for more than gaming, you could feel trapped by the Nitro 5’s bulky design and short battery life, which severely limit its portability. You can snag the Asus ROG Strix G15 AMD Advantage Edition for the same price as the Nitro 5 or less on sale, and it outperforms the Nitro 5 for non-ray tracing gaming. It also sports a notably thinner chassis and has nine hours of battery life, but you’d still be getting a mediocre display. If you want a gaming laptop with a great display that won’t break the bank, the HP Victus 16, a laptop with a beautiful metal chassis and a vivid display, offers a similar configuration for almost the same price as the Nitro 5.

Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.
