The 10.1-inch VNB101 is one of two netbooks available from display specialist ViewSonic. This model, the more advanced of the pair, is aimed at those who want to enjoy computing on the move for very little money. The ViewSonic VNB101 is small and highly portable but, that aside, it doesn't have a great deal going for it. The keys are fiddly, its battery life is nothing to get excited about and its multi-touch capability feels poorly implemented. It's fairly cheap, but we'd recommend taking a look at one of the many alternatives

It's a usable and well-made portable, but one that ultimately proves unexceptional. The 10.1-inch chassis weighs 1.2kg and its slim design makes it easy to slip into hand luggage. While the VNB101 is well made and usable, its only stand-out feature is its quick-boot feature, which you'll use all the time or not at all. Combined with the poor battery life and hazy screen, it is hard to recommend this netbook.

The ViewSonic VNB101 netbook won't turn many heads, but it's a decent, albeit quirky, little laptop for users who want something small and reasonably easy to use. If you're looking for a thin and light netbook, the 1.1kg ViewSonic VNB101 does have some merit, but it also has a few drawbacks. You only get two USB 2.0 ports, its SD card slot is located in an awkward position, and its battery life was short of two hours in our tests. It does look decent, though, and it comes with a version of the Linpus Lite operating system pre-installed, in addition to Windows XP.

The world and his wife seem to be producing netbooks these days, and ViewSonic is the latest to jump in. Anyone expecting innovation will be disappointed, though, as the VNB101 is pretty standard fare, with a 1.66GHz Atom, 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard disk forming the core. There's nothing inherently wrong with the VNB101, it's actually quite a nice first attempt from a manufacturer not known for producing laptops. But battery life is poor, and we'll need something game-changing – Nvidia's ION or the dual-core Atom – before any more new netbooks jump up above the tried-and-tested best.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Il nuovo core di grafica Intel® GMA 950 è un motore grafico intelligente e dai tempi di risposta rapidi integrato nel chipset presente sulla scheda madre. Non propriamente adatta per giocare.

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

N280: CPU single core economico e lento, a basso consumo, per Netbook. A causa dell'esecuzione in-order, le prestazioni per MHz sono peggiori rispetto ad un processore Core Solo o ad un Celeron M. Rispetto alla N270, la N280 ha un clock minimamente superiore ed offre un maggiore FSB.

10.0": Il netbook/subnotebook ha un formato di display abbastanza piccolo. Tuttavia di tratta di un formato comune per i netbooks. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.

1.1 kg: Questo subnotebook è uno dei più leggeri di tutti i portatili e può essere trasportato con estrema semplicità. Difficilmente si trovano altri modelli in questa fascia di peso.
 7-9 pollici sono la norma per questa categoria di peso. 

65.5%: Questo punteggio è negativo. La maggior parte dei portatili hanno fatto di meglio. Se ne sconsiglia l'acquisto.
