With a retail price of S$2099, the Samsung X460 is priced quite reasonably for its capabilities, though it may seem a tad pricey to some folks. You may probably get a better specced notebook at the same price, but we doubt you'll be able to find something that easily matches the build and design of this notebook. That's really what seals the deal for us. Grab this notebook if it fits your budget and needs; you won't regret it (unless you despise the glossy finish internally and externally).

A highly portable and practical laptop with great all-round performance. Samsung produces many highly portable laptops in the sub-£799 category. The X460 is a departure from this, and is a halo product looking to take the brand upmarket. If you don't mind the cost, the Samsung X460 is a highly impressive machine. It may lack the premium feel of other high-end laptops, but its excellent abilities and amazing portability make it one of the best 14.1-inch machines we've seen.

The bigger issues with the X460 are the notebook’s price and the competition. There isn’t a lot of direct competition if you are looking for a 4.0 pound notebook with a 14-inch display (aside from the pricey Toughbook F8 or the older Y7) but if you are willing to add a bit of weight/thickness there are some great deals to be had. Selling for about $1600 the X460-44P isn’t particularly cheap which means the buyer is going to have to want this size and the optical drive specifically and will appreciate the thinness and design of the computer. The X460 is a very good computer and it is especially thin for its size, but considering that it is coming in more expensive than the new MacBook, the Dell Studio XPS 13, and some other very solid systems, it might be a tough sell. The X360 does a bit better job of distinguishing itself from the pack, but it increases the price as well, so might seem like an alternative, but it is aimed more at people looking for an ultraportable.

In taking on the MacBook Air, the X460 has a huge amount to live up to. In many ways, it succeeds, and then some. If you’re determined to get one of the lightest and thinnest laptops, without compromising on screen size, performance or features, then it’s definitely worth a look. It can’t match the quality of its rival from Apple, however, nor the latest ultra portables from Sony. And therein lies the crux of the problem. With similar materials, design and performance to its cheaper siblings, we’re just not convinced it’s worth the extra money over “lesser” Samsung models. Such as the sublime Samsung Q310.

We're pretty impressed with the Samsung X460. Oh, sure, we have a couple of quibbles about choices such as the discrete but low-end GPU (obviously a cost-cutting measure), but that doesn't stop us from recommending this machine. It's a little outside the range of our definition of an ultraportable laptop (which includes a screen smaller than 13.3in diagonally), but this is a great thin-and-light choice, regardless.

Although it’s not quite the lightest 14.1-inch notebook around, the Samsung X460-44P is certainly the thinnest, and it offers more style than all of its business notebook competitors. Plus, this machine provides a good one-two punch of performance and battery life. We wish the nine-cell battery option cost less, and that Samsung offered integrated mobile broadband connectivity. Also keep in mind that you can’t configure this system to order; what you see is what you get. But overall the X460-44P is one of our favorite thin-and-light notebooks.

NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS: Versione con frequenza di clock più bassa della 9300M GS e perciò lievemente più lenta. Supporta PureVideo HD (VP3) e Hybrid-SLI (HybridPower e GeForceBoost).

Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.

P8600: CPU dual core veloce ma non costosa. Sufficiente per la maggior parte dei giochi e delle applicazioni multimedia ed adatta anche ai portatili più piccoli grazie ai 25W di TDP.

14.1": I display da 14 pollici sono un misto tra i formati piccoli dei subnotebooks ed i 15 pollici dei display standard. La ragione per cui così tante persone preferiscono displays con dimensioni medie dipende dal fatto che tale dimensione non crea particolari problemi alla vista, non richiede troppa energia ed i portatili riescono ad avere dimensioni abbastanza compatte.

1.9 kg: Questo portatile è più leggero rispetto alla media di tutti i notebooks. Ma è troppo pesante per essere un sub-notebooks.
