So, if you don’t fancy squinting at an 11.6” screen, the X420 may be for you. It’s the next model up in Samsung’s X Series and while the specification is broadly similar to the X120, the X420 has a 14” screen and much better battery life. There’s a lot to like about the Samsung X420 and if you like the look of the X120, but worry about its small screen, this is an excellent — and almost as portable — alternative.

EN→ITThere's little to fault the X420 in terms of build quality and hardware. It's light, sexy and quite a performer. In retrospect, its glossy lid might be a haven for fingerprints, though it does lend a touch of class to its overall aesthetics compared to the prototype's matte cover. Also, the 16:9 screen is satisfactorily bright and sharp to suit your needs, whether it's for office applications or movie playback. Not to mention the notebook also comes with a HDMI port should you prefer to blow up your HD clips onto a larger screen or TV.

Our only qualm was that the built-in speakers are a little weedy. Still, there is an audio output socket so a pair of headphones or speakers can be connected. With all of the impressive credentials of the X420 we reckon Samsung has a winner on its hands.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Scheda grafica intregrata basata sul chipset GM45 (Montevina). Più performante rispetto alla vecchia GMA X3100 grazie ha due shader in più ed ad un clock più elevato. Rimane, comunque, non consigliata per i giocatori più incalliti. Il processore video integrato è capace di codificare video HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2). Ad esempio permette la riproduzione di video HD compatibile con i requisiti del logo Blu-Ray, con il supporto nativo per unità Blu-Ray.
La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).

Intel Pentium Dual Core: Un ritorno del nome Pentium, sebbene sia un core Yonah. In fatti, è un processore dual Core con un ottimo rapporto prestazioni consumi.
SU4100: Processore dual core di fascia bassa per subnotebooks sottili e leggeri. A causa del nome Pentium, la CPU potrebbe avere meno funzioni di risparmio energetico rispetto ai processori Core 2 Duo.

14.0": I display da 14 pollici sono un misto tra i formati piccoli dei subnotebooks ed i 15 pollici dei display standard. La ragione per cui così tante persone preferiscono displays con dimensioni medie dipende dal fatto che tale dimensione non crea particolari problemi alla vista, non richiede troppa energia ed i portatili riescono ad avere dimensioni abbastanza compatte.
