L'aggiornamento Lenovo della serie Y700 è un ragionevole miglioramento rispetto a Y50 e Y70. Gli utenti ora hanno uno chassis più robusto due bays èper l'archiviazione e le maggiori performance grazie a Skylake ed SSD dedicato.

Allo stesso tempo, il sistema appare molto barebones specialmente per le dimensioni. Non abbiamo mai visto un sistema gaming così privo di features sino al Razer Blade 14. I proprietari sentiranno la mancanza di opzioni per G-Sync, NVMe, USB Type-C, mDP, SPDIF/optical out, drive ottico, Thunderbolt, RAID, e tasti Macro dedicati. I problemi di retroilluminazione in particolare ci hanno preoccupato relativamente al controllo di qualità nonostante il pannello IPS utilizzato.

Se non ci fosse l'assenza di quelle features, allora l'Y700 sarebbe adatto per le prestazioni elevate di CPU e GPU. Gli utenti possono risparmiare centinaia di euro avendo molte più features presenti su portatili concorrenti.
