EN→ITThe second screen doesn't add much functionality, and it consumes an inordinate amount of battery life. It's a pretty big waste of money, too--it adds $420 to the cost of an otherwise-comparable W700. For that money, you could buy a 24-inch desktop display, connect it to a W700, and enjoy a desktop that stretches from here to Sunday. The W700 is a well-designed desktop replacement notebook; the W700ds adds nothing that I couldn't get in another, better form, for less money.

EN→ITEven if you’re willing to accept that full-desktop power comes with a full-desktop weight and size (as you should be), it will take a user who is absolutely salivating for a second screen (and willing to overlook a number of other annoying factors) to find satisfaction in the W700ds. The side screen’s small size, poor image quality and buggy drivers all conspired to make it truly a tough sell. Sure, it will make life in Photoshop a little easier when you can drag your tools off to the side, but we’re not really sure if that additional convenience and capability comes anywhere near justifying the additional price, size, and weight. Power users like video editors and travelling engineers should probably check into the original W700 as a more practical purchase.

Exact pricing has not yet been set, but our configuration is valued at close to $4,600 without the secondary screen, and Lenovo said that the second screen will come with a $500 premium. You can bring the cost down by hundreds of dollars and still get the secondary display if you configure the system with a dual-core CPU, a slower graphics chip, and a single hard drive. So is a 10.6-inch screen worth an extra $500 when 19-inch external monitors can be had for $100? It is if you need to take that screen with you to a work site and you can’t pack an external monitor in a carton. As mobile components become less expensive, we expect the prices of high-performance notebooks like this one to come closer to those of similarly configured desktops. If you need that kind of mobile horsepower and versatility today, the W700ds is worth every penny.

Packing workstation-class components into a 15-inch class chassis results in a system with overall solid CPU performance and reasonably good graphics performance, all built into a sturdy, if somewhat heavy, chassis. The addition of features like colour calibration and USB 3.0 are a plus, but those are mitigated by other limitations, such as the lack of Blu-ray burner. It's not inexpensive, either. In the end, the Lenovo Thinkpad W510 offers an excellent alternative for workstation users on the go who are looking for overall good performance and are willing to live with its minor shortcomings.

It offers some superb performance thanks to its quad core processor yet still manages some excellent running times. Graphics professionals will also want to look into the upgraded IPS display and color calibrator that is one of the best on the market for color accuracy.

It provides great all-over performance with its quad-core i7 processor, NVIDIA Quadro 2000M graphics, and 8GB DDR3 RAM. The 95% color gamut FHD display is easily conducive to professionals in the graphics arts or similar industry. It also has a wide range of ports and features, such as the two HighSpeed 3.0 USB ports and the Pantone huey PRO color calibration system. We did not feel as though the complaints we did have about the workstation were deal breakers in the least bit. For those in need of a powerful workstation, this system should be a definite option.

EN→ITI didn’t think the Lenovo ThinkPad W520 would be much of an improvement. It’s the same keyboard, chassis, screen, etc. as the ThinkPad W510. But the beauty is below the surface and in this case, the Sandy Bridge chipset offers much better performance while managing energy use much more efficiently. You’ll certainly want to watch for more scientific testing by the professional review blogs and organizations but it sure looks like a super machine for your consideration. I look forward to seeing how it fairs against the competition in the shootouts. Until then, buy with confidence. This is a sweet machine ready to do some hard work. Lenovo: Lenovo Group Limited è il principale produttore di computer in Cina ed il quarto a livello mondiale. Lenovo produce desktops, laptops, servers, computers palmari, strumenti per la grafica, e telefoni cellulari. NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800M: Scheda grafica professionale per workstation con drivers certificati. Basata sul core GeForce GTX 280M. Paragonata alla FX 3700M, la FX 3800M sfrutta una velocità clock superiore ed è realizzata in 55nm.
NVIDIA Quadro FX 2800M: Scheda grafica di fascia alta professionale per workstation con drivers certificati. Grazie ai 96 shader cores è simile alla 9800M GT ma può essere già realizzata in 55nm (e sfrutta un core clock superiore).
NVIDIA Quadro 2000M:
Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650: La HD 3650 è una scheda di classe media (nel 2008) è la possiamo rapportare alla 8600M GT di invidia. È prodotta con un processo a 55nm e grazie al motore video Avivo, la scheda grafica può supportare il processore in molte operazioni video compresa la decodifica di video HD.
Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.
T9400: La T9400 è una veloce CPU dual core di classe media per portatili ed è di base una Core 2 Duo P9500 con un TDP superiore di 35 Watt.
Intel Core i7:
820QM: La Core i7-820QM è una CPU quad core di fascia alta per portatili, con un clock che grazie al Turbo Mode arriva a 1.73-3.06 GHz. Di conseguenza, il processore combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. L'hyperthreading consente l'utilizzo simultaneo di 8 Threads in parallelo.
920XM: La CPU più veloce del 2009 nei portatili Core i7 ma con un TDP di 55 Watt che la rende assetata di energia. Grazie al Turbo Mode, la CPU può girare fino a 3.2 GHz. A causa dell'Extreme tag, il moltiplicatore non è bloccato, e di conseguenza la CPU va facilmente in overclock.
720QM: Il Core i7-720QM è il Core i7 Quad più lento del 2009 ed ha un clock tra 1.6 e 2.8 GHz (grazie al Turbo Mode). Di conseguenza, il processore combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. Rispetto alle più veloci CPUs Core i7, la 720QM ha solo 6MB di L3 Cache.
620M: Il Core i7-620M e la CPU Dual-Core più veloce per portatili (al momento del lancio nel 2010). La 620M ha un clock tra i 2.66 ed i 3.33 GHz grazie al Turbo Mode ed all'Hyperthreading, possono essere eseguiti 4 simultaneamente. Nella confezione, Intel include anche una GPU integrata (GMA HD) ed un controller di memoria. Di conseguenza, il TDP di 35 Watt dell'intero pacchetto risulta comunque buono.
2820QM: Veloce processore Quad-core basato sulla architettura Sandy Bridge con scheda grafica integrata e controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3.
15.4: La variante di display da 15 pollici rientra tra lo standard ed è utilizzata da più della metà di tutti i portatili. I display da 15.4 pollici in 16:10 sono lo standard per i portatili. Attualmente, sempre più appaiono i displays 16:9 da 15.6 pollici. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.
15.6: La variante di display da 15 pollici rientra tra lo standard ed è utilizzata da più della metà di tutti i portatili. I display da 15.4 pollici in 16:10 sono lo standard per i portatili. Attualmente, sempre più appaiono i displays 16:9 da 15.6 pollici. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.
17.0: Allo stesso tempo i display da 17 pollici sono offerti più frequentemente come formato standard per i desktop-replacements. I portatili DTR non sono facili da trasportare, richiedono molta più energia ma in compenso i testi possono essere letti facilmente e le risoluzioni elevate non sono problematiche. I DTR sono principalmente destinati ad un utilizzo stazionario da scrivania, dove il peso ed i consumi non sono rilevanti.
17.3: Allo stesso tempo i display da 17 pollici sono offerti più frequentemente come formato standard per i desktop-replacements. Questo portatile è più leggero rispetto alla media di tutti i notebooks. Ma è troppo pesante per essere un sub-notebooks.

Questo peso è medio per i notebooks. Di conseguenza la numerosità di portatili con schermo da 15-16 pollici è condizionata proprio dal peso.
81.75%: Il punteggio deve essere considerato medio, in quanto il numero di portatili che hanno ottenuto un punteggio migliore è uguale a quello dei portatili che hanno avuto un punteggio peggiore.
