And if you want to play games, the ASUS G51J, which is $300 less expensive, will be more to your liking. Overall, the Envy 15 has the guts to be a MacBook killer, but we’d like to see HP provide longer battery life—without adding 2 pounds of weight—and cooler temperatures.

The HP Envy 15-1110ea is a beautiful laptop which oozes quality and comes with plenty of stylish design touches. Its more powerful and better equipped than the more expensive Apple MacBook Pro that it imitates, but its quad-core processor could prove overkill for many of us, making it hotter and shirt-lived off the mains.

One of the few consistent high-end Windows laptop lines, HP's Envy series has always impressed with its sharp design, high-end components, and (aside from the too-expensive very first models) reasonable prices. HP's Envy line has always been a reliable high-end PC laptop line, and this new redesign adds some useful features, such as a volume wheel, while keeping the upscale look and feel.

We like the eye-catching redesign along with the bright, 1080p display, strong performance, and excellent audio. Is the ENVY 15 as good as the 15-inch MacBook Pro? No. But considering that for the hardware that we tested you’d have to spend nearly $2000 on an Apple machine, it doesn’t have to be. If you find yourself spending most of your computer time within the reach of an AC outlet, it’s tough to beat for power and media capabilities. I wish it was a little lighter and lasted a little longer, but as a desktop replacement and media consumption/creation specialist, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything with these kinds of specs, fit and finish in this price range.

HP: La Hewlett-Packard Company, fondata nel 1935, meglio nota come HP, è una società del settore tecnologico con sede principale in California, USA. HP è specializzata nello sviluppo e produzione di hardware per computing, archiviazione, networking, e software e servizi. La principale gamma di prodotti include dispositivi per il personal computing, servers enterprise, e relativi dispositivi di archiviazione, così come diverse categorie di stampanti ed altri prodotti per l'immagine. Altri settori di produzione, includono apparecchi e sistemi per test elettronici, apparecchiature mediche, componenti allo stato solido e strumentazione per analisi chimiche. HP ha dichiarato nel 2006 ricavi per 91.7 miliardi di dollari, con questo risultato si è affermata come la principale azienda tecnologica in termini di vendite. Queste schede grafiche dovrebbero essere in grado di far funzionare tutti i giochi attuali con un framerates fluido ma rinunciando al livello di dettaglio massimo. Specialmente i giochi impegnativi come Crysis, Age of Conan, o Mass Effect sono utilizzabili soltanto con impostazioni grafiche ridotte. I giochi meno pesanti (e più datati), come Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, o Battlefield 2142 possono essere giocati con livello di dettagli più alto.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830: La Mobility Radeon HD 4830 è una Mobility HD 4860 con un clock inferiore basata su un core RV740 in 40nm. Pertanto è simile alla serie desktop HD 4700. Grazie al processo di produzione in 40nm, il consumo di corrente potrebbe essere simile alla HD 4670 (secondo le voci che circolano).
Al posto della memoria GDDR5 della HD 4860, la 4830 può montare una lenta DDR3 p un più veloce GDDR3. La memoria più lenta e il clock del core più lento comportano prestazioni inferiori.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830:
Queste schede grafiche sono paragonabili alle entusiasmanti schede grafiche desktop, come la 9800M GT. Le schede hanno un core simile alle relative schede desktop, ma hanno un clock inferiore e spesso hanno processori con meno ombre. I giochi moderni come Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, o Gothic 3 dovrebbero scorrere in modo fluido con dettagli elevati (Crysis dovrebbe funzionare con dettagli medio alti).

Intel Core i7:
720QM: Il Core i7-720QM è il Core i7 Quad più lento del 2009 ed ha un clock tra 1.6 e 2.8 GHz (grazie al Turbo Mode). Di conseguenza, il processore combina i vantaggi delle veloci CPUs single core e delle lente CPUs quad-core. Rispetto alle più veloci CPUs Core i7, la 720QM ha solo 6MB di L3 Cache.
15.6: La variante di display da 15 pollici rientra tra lo standard ed è utilizzata da più della metà di tutti i portatili. I display da 15.4 pollici in 16:10 sono lo standard per i portatili. Attualmente, sempre più appaiono i displays 16:9 da 15.6 pollici. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.
