Dell's Mini 1012 is essentially a laptop that is stuck in design and features from over a year ago. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't priced near $400 which is well above many similarly equipped netbooks. It does have a few improvements such as Windows 7 Home Premium and an HDMI port but it just doesn't make up for the various shortcomings.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (1012) netbook sells for a price of Rs. 17,900 on Dell's website. We think it's an attractive price to pay for a stylish, good-looking 10-inch netbook with standard performance, very good keyboard and excellent battery life. The netbook's online data backup service is an added bonus. Between the Acer Aspire One 532h and the Dell Inspiron Mini 10, we wholeheartedly recommend the Inspiron Mini 10 for its better looks, design, and battery life. You should consider the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 for its slightly better keyboard and useful bundled proprietary software, but it doesn't match up to the Dell Inspiron Mini 10's battery life and great price. Overall, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook is the best 10-inch netbook to buy right now.

Dell has expanded its Inspiron Mini range of netbooks with a re-invention of the Mini 10, also known as the 1012. The Dell Mini 1012 has some well-implemented features that make it stand out above the sea of competing netbooks. We like the great display, big keyboard and fantastic build quality. It's a little on the pricey side, but if you're in the market for a good quality netbook, the 1012 is unlikely to disappoint.

The price of the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 starts from Rs. 15,900 (delivery charges extra) on the Dell India website. This comes with 1GB RAM and 160GB hard drive with XP pre-installed. The pricing is pretty fair. The high-end version, with a higher-resolution (HD) display, 2GB RAM, 320GB hard disk and Windows 7 Home Basic also carries a value for money tag of Rs. 20,000.

At a price of Rs. 16,800 this model has some very clear advantages besides a nice low price point; as can be seen from the results. It's got nice battery life, considering it's a 3 cell model. It lasted more than 3 and half hours in our Battery Eater Pro Classic test, and for normal usage we got about 5 hours 20 minutes. The Graphics are better with the 3150. We could watch upto 720p video quite easily, with very little issues of stutter and frame coughing.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Scheda grafica integrata (memoria condivisa) nell'Intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimamente più veloce rispetto ad una vecchia GMA 950 e pertanto non adatta ai giochi 3D o ai video HD (solo accelerazione MPEG2).

Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

N450: CPU Intel Atom per Netbooks con controller di memoria integrato e GPU GMA 3150. LE prestazioni del sistema dovrebbero essere solo minimamente superiori rispetto alla precedente combinazione Atom N280 / GMA 950.

10.1": Il netbook/subnotebook ha un formato di display abbastanza piccolo. Tuttavia di tratta di un formato comune per i netbooks. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.

1.4 kg: Questo subnotebook è uno dei più leggeri di tutti i portatili e può essere trasportato con estrema semplicità. Difficilmente si trovano altri modelli in questa fascia di peso.
 10 pollici sono la norma per questa categoria di peso.
