Dell's Inspiron 15R is a fairly good value for those looking at getting a strong performing laptop with some extra hard drive space. For under $1000, it certainly has features that are equal to much of the competition. Be warned that the graphics are not Direct X 11 compatible even though it carries a naming similar to ATI's latest. Dell also doesn't offer the same level of customization that they did in the past laptops.

The Inspiron 15R is a great laptop for those who like a clean, understated look while having enough power under the hood to do whatever they choose. In short, the Dell Inspiron 15R is a great all-round notebook and should be on your list, if you are looking for a new workhorse.

Dell's refreshed Inspiron R line includes the midsize 15.6-inch model aptly named the 15R. This system is available in several configurations, but the $699 model features a 2nd Generation Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor with 3MB of cache and integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics. While you won't want to use this laptop for serious gaming, it does make a peppy model for very light run-throughs in non-intensive games, such as World of Warcraft.

It has a simple design and its specs are oriented towards those users looking to get a home laptop on an economical budget. In our test benchmarks, it performed well. However given some of the laptop's drawbacks, such as the keys being springy, there are better alternatives available in the market, at a similar price range - one such alternative would be the Lenovo IdeaPad Z570.

Dell: Dell è un produttore statunitense (con sede in Texas) di hardware per computer fondato nel 1984 ed è uno dei maggiori produttori internazionali sia in termini di quota di mercato che di modelli di notebook. La sua linea di prodotti comprende desktop, notebook, sistemi di archiviazione, monitor, server, stampanti, elettronica di consumo e periferiche. Dell offre laptop adatti a varie applicazioni, come laptop aziendali, laptop da gioco, ultra portatili e workstation. I laptop aziendali Dell delle serie Latitude e Precision sono un'opzione per utenti professionali e aziende.
Nel 2023, Dell deteneva una quota di mercato di circa il 17% delle vendite globali di PC, classificandosi al terzo posto dopo Lenovo e HP.
Per gli appassionati di giochi, il marchio Alienware di Dell è per i notebook da gioco.
La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v: Scheda grafica HD 4650 con un clock inferiore (basata sullo stesso chip) chiamata anche Mobility Radeon HD 4630 ancora realizzata in 55nm e con supporto DirectX 10.1.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processore grafico high end tra i modelli Ivy Bridge. Offre una differente velocità clock nei diversi modelli di CPU (da ULV a desktop quad core) e di conseguenza con prestazioni variabili.
Intel HD Graphics 4400:
GPU ULV integrata (GT2) con 20 EUs che si trova su alcuni processori Haswell.
Soltanto i giochi datasi possono essere giocati in modo fluido con questi chips grafici (se non richiedono troppe prestazioni). I cores con memoria grafica condivisa in questa categoria hanno il vantaggio delle minori emissioni di calore e della maggiore autonomia della batteria. Per ufficio, internet, image processing, e video editing queste schede grafiche sono utilizzabili senza particolari problematiche.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
Intel HD Graphics 3000: 3 imminenti (Q1 2011) schede grafiche integrate nel processore Intel Sandy Bridge (Core ix-2xxx). La 3000 / 200 è la versione più veloce internamente chiamata GT2 con 12 Execution Units (EUs).
Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.
AMD Radeon HD 7670M: Si tratta di una Radeon HD 6650M con un nome diverso e di conseguenza è ancora prodotta in 40nm.
AMD Radeon HD 8730M: Scheda grafica di fascia media basata sull'architettura GCN.

Intel Core i5:
460M: L'Intel Core i5-460M è una CPU dual core di fascia alta per portatili ed ha un clock (grazie al Turbo Mode) da 2.53 a 2.8 GHz. Ogni core si basa sulla micro architettura Nehalem (Westemere). L'hyperthreading consente alla CPU Dual Core di gestire 4 threads contemporaneamente (per un miglior utilizzo della pipeline).
3210M: Veloce dual-core Ivy-Bridge-based, include una HD 4000 Graphics, e core clock 2.5 - 3.1 GHz
2450M: Processore Dual-core basato sull'architettura Sandy Bridge con una scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3. La CPU ha un clock da 2.5 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.8-3.1 GHz) e la GPU da 650 (1300 MHz Turbo).
3317U: CPU ULV Ivy-Bridge-based del secondo quadrimestre 2012. Offre un core clock di 1.7 - 2.6 GHz ed una HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1050 MHz). Il TDP è di 17 W.
Intel Core i3:
2310M: Processore dual-core basato sull'architettura Sandy Bridge con una scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3. La CPU ha un clock da 2.1 GHz e sfrutta il Turbo Boost 2.0 solo per la scheda grafica (650/1100MHz).
2330M: Processore dual-core basato sull'architettura basato Sandy Bridge con scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3. La CPU ha un clock da 2.2 GHz e sfrutta il Turbo Boost 2.0 solo per la scheda grafica (650/1100MHz).
2370M: Processore Dual-core basato sull'architettura Sandy Bridge con una scheda grafica integrata ed un controller di memoria dual-channel DDR3. La CPU ha un clock da 2.4 GHz e sfrutta il Turbo Boost 2.0 solo per la scheda grafica.
