It’s hard to see who Asus’s supercar laptop tie-ups are aimed at. If you have the money to buy a Ferrari, a Porsche or, in this case, a Lamborghini, will you really be going for a £1,700 portable to remind you what’s in the garage. If you drive a lowered Golf with blue neons underneath, wouldn’t you want a VW laptop? We guess the Asus VX5 is all about aspiration. A high performance, Blu-ray, HD-capable laptop with the extra panache of the Lamborghini tie-in.

The Lamborghini outdoes the Ferrari only in encoding/decoding music files and video. But the Ferrari’s slight advantage shouldn’t be taken as any kind of slight on the Asus Lamborghini: its price is good, the performance is good and features – including USB 3.0 – are well-specced. And it’s more readily available than the Ferrari One. The Asus EeePC Lamborghini VX6 is a 12.1in netbook you’d be pleased to use, and the only drawback, for some, may be the wrong logo on the lid.

I wouldn’t buy this netbook for one simple reason; the price is too high for a netbook with an Atom processor. I’d rather buy an entry-level laptop like the Lenovo IdeaPad Z460 or the something similar, where I get a proper 14-inch screen and the laptop can play full-HD movies, not to mention that it would have an Intel Core i3 CPU. This is a niche product that could attract either brand-conscious users or people who need something portable, feature rich and cool to carry around. At the end of the day, it’s an expensive netbook. It deserves an above average rating solely due to the features, performance and overall quality. The price is ridiculous.

The Asus Lamborghini VX6 sells at an MRP of Rs. 43,000. Let us keep the Lamborghini branding aside for a moment (we know that there will be a time when the charm's ultimately going to wear off). This laptop is better than the previous 12-inch ION-powered ASUS netbook in two respects - a dual-core Atom processor and the USB 3.0 ports. Otherwise, it is more or less the same in terms of functionality. The VX6 falls in a weird category. It is far too expensive to be called a netbook. If your objective is to watch hi-def movies and have moderately powerful internals under the hood, then 40 grand can also fetch you the 13-inch variant of the Acer Timeline X 4820T we tested; if you're willing to let go of the car-branding. From an individual stand-point, the VX6 left me a little dissatisfied on a few counts like the battery life and lacking Optimus tech (which could've improved the battery life). If you insist on buying a 12-inch netbook, then the 1201NL worth Rs. 27,000 will do almost everything the VX6 can, except for the USB 3.0 high-speed data transfers.

So, is the Asus VX6 Lamborghini worth the fuss? Well, that's for you to decide. I can say that it is fast for a mini laptop and looks great. Pricing is high, but that's the case with all limited editions and branded devices, like this one. Too bad It doesn't come in yellow though, I would really dig that color option.

With ultra-low power laptops approaching netbook levels of battery life (and in some cases surpassing it) and with tablets usurping the netbook's traditional role as companion device, netbooks need to do something different to stand out. Despite the styling and the Lamborghini branding, the VX6 remains an Eee in wolf's clothing. You're paying a premium price for something that could be bought a lot cheaper elsewhere, and no matter how fancy the looks, the fact that this is a 32-bit Atom with only 2GB of RAM and no GPU shows as soon as you try to run any demanding applications. Sadly then, the NV6 doesn't even reach go-cart levels, despite its sports car looks - instead it's just a die-cast children's' toy sat in the window of the show room.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M: La Nvidia GeForce GT 130M è una scheda grafica DirectX 10 per portatili e tecnicamente è una GeForce 9650M GT con un clock superiore con un consumo di energia inferiore. E' realizzata con tecnologia 55nm ed il consumo di corrente è simile alla 9600M GT prodotta in 65nm. Come la 9600M GT sfrutta un processore video PureVideo HD (VP3) e supporta la HybridPower. 

NVIDIA ION 2: ION2 è una scheda grafica GT218 per sistemi Pinetrail Atom (D510, D410, N450) con 8 o 16 shader cores in relazione alla piattaforma (10", 12", desktop). Paragonata alla ION 1, la ION 2 è una scheda grafica dedicata (collegata solo da una PCIe 1x grazie alle limitazioni Pinetrail) basata sulla GeForce 305M / 310M. Supporta la PureVideo HD per decodificare i videos HD.

Intel Core 2 Quad:

Q9000: CPU quad core (4 cores) con un clock lento che soffre in particolare con molti giochi proprio a causa della lentezza del clock. Di conseguenza, non è adatto ai giochi e per le applicazioni non multi threaded.

Intel Atom:

La Intel Atom è una serie a 64-Bit di microprocessori (non tutti i modelli supportano 64bit) per portatili economici e piccoli (chiamati comunemente netbooks), MIDs, o UMPCs (Ultra Mibile Persona Computer). La particolarità della nuova architettura è l'esecuzione "in order" (al posto della consueta e più veloce esecuzione "out of order"). Di conseguenza il transistor count della serie Atom è abbastanza inferiore, e quindi più economico da produrre. Inoltre, il consumo di energia è molto contenuto. Le prestazioni per Megahertz sono ovviamente peggiori rispetto ai vecchi Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz alla pari di 1.6 GHz Atom).

D525: Processore dual core pensato per i Nettops ma che è usato anche nei Netbooks. Il D525 ha un controller di memoria DDR2/DDR3 integrati ed un core grafico GMA3150. A causa dell'assenza dello Speedstep, l'autonomia della batteria è nettamente inferiore rispetto a quella delle altre CPUs Atom.

12.1: Questo è un formato di display comune per i subnotebooks. La maggior parte dei netbooks hanno display più piccoli. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.

Questo subnotebook è uno dei più leggeri di tutti i portatili e può essere trasportato con estrema semplicità. Difficilmente si trovano altri modelli in questa fascia di peso.
 7-9 pollici sono la norma per questa categoria di peso. 

3.5 kg:

Questo peso è medio per i notebooks. Di conseguenza la numerosità di portatili con schermo da 15-16 pollici è condizionata proprio dal peso.

75.79%: Il punteggio ottenuto non convince. Bisogna considerare che difficilmente altri portatili hanno ricevuto un punteggio inferiore al 60%. Questo portatile è stato giudicato sotto la media, pertanto non possiamo consigliarne l'acquisto.
