The K40IN has good build quality, a pleasing keyboard and screen, and gets over four and a half hours of battery life. Unfortunately the K40IN's value proposition is questionable. It lacks an HDMI port and is priced $100-$150 more than competitors with the same specifications minus the Nvidia graphics. The Nvidia graphics are a puzzling choice for the K40IN; they are not powerful enough to play modern games and consume more power than Intel graphics. The only advantage the K40IN has over its competitors is better warranty coverage. Overall we like the K40IN but are hard-pressed to recommend it for the stated reasons.

It wasn’t that long ago that you had to spend at least a grand to get a lightweight notebook with discrete graphics. The ASUS K40 (IN-B1), a 14-inch machine that sports an Nvidia GPU, is priced at at an aggressive $799, making it a good choice for students. This 14-inch notebook boasts a sleek design and good graphics punch for the price. Priced at $799, the ASUS K40 (IN-B1) costs more than your typical 14-inch notebook, but it’s worth the premium if you’re looking for better graphics performance. If you can do without a DVD drive and you want longer battery life, go for the $749 Dell Studio 14z, which also has discrete Nvidia graphics. But if you prefer to have an optical drive, the ASUS K40 is a solid pick.

We wouldn’t go so far as to say that affordable thin-and-lights are all the rage, but laptop makers certainly seem to have taken notice, as we’ve seen a handful of these lightweight 13- and 14-inch notebooks introduced recently. Very few, however, come with a discrete graphics option, which makes low-impact gaming and high-impact photo or video editing nearly impossible. The thin Asus K40IN is perfect for mobile users who want to enjoy some games on a roomy screen—and pay less than $800 for the privilege.

NVIDIA GeForce G 102M: La Nvidia GeForce G 102M è una scheda integrata (onboard) per portatili con memoria grafica dedicata. Al posto della memoria GDDR, possono essere usati moduli DDR2 o DDR3. Pertanto le prestazioni si attestano sopra la Geforce G 105M. Il core della G102 M si basa su quello della 9400M G. 

Ridurre la distanza delle Schede Grafiche per gli utenti che vogliono utilizzare il videogiochi. I nuovi giochi dovrebbero funzionare su queste schede, ma con riduzione dei dettagli e risoluzione mediocre.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.

14.0": I display da 14 pollici sono un misto tra i formati piccoli dei subnotebooks ed i 15 pollici dei display standard. La ragione per cui così tante persone preferiscono displays con dimensioni medie dipende dal fatto che tale dimensione non crea particolari problemi alla vista, non richiede troppa energia ed i portatili riescono ad avere dimensioni abbastanza compatte.

2.4 kg: Questo peso è medio per i notebooks. Di conseguenza la numerosità di portatili con schermo da 14-15 pollici è condizionata proprio dal peso.
