EN→ITThe Apple refresh of the MacBook Air adds some additional performance to the extremely thin ultraportable system, but fails to address some of the design decisions that can impact the functionality. The primary differences between the previous version and the new is faster DDR3 memory and the use of an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics for higher graphics performance. Apple still only supplies a single USB port and a non-swappable battery. And of course the optical drive is external and must be purchased separately. The net result is still a system that you will either love a lot or find lacking.

EN→ITFor some reason we were never able to get hold of a first generation MacBook Air. That's hardly surprising; I'm entirely sure Apple knew full well it was over-priced, under-featured and would nonetheless sell simply on the basis of it's being, first, a new Apple product and, second, an awesome thing to behold. To continue the TrustedReviews tradition of dubious car analogies, the MacBook Air is rather like the Noble M600. Nobody in their right mind would buy one as their sole mode of transport. But you just know that if you could afford one you couldn't help but be very tempted, no matter how ludicrous a purchase it is.

EN→ITThe previous generation MacBook Air was already well clear of the competition in its sleek design and uncompromised speed. With this latest 2009 update, not only has Apple made the Apple MacBook Air (Mid 2009) faster, but it’s over 30% cheaper. It comes with Mac OS X already installed, offering a virus-free and reliable platform for business or home. But for the buyer who can't forsake Microsoft Windows, a licensed copy of Windows 7 could be added to the cost, installed on the Air through Boot Camp, and you’d still have a cost-effective winner relative to other ultraportables notebooks.

EN→ITNow in its third generation, the MacBook Air hasn’t had the same sort of overhaul as the rest of the MacBook range has had in recent months. The MacBook Air is by no means perfect. Its performance and connectivity options are both more limited than those of conventional but heavier laptops. However, it does perform well when compared to other ultra-portable PCs in the same price bracket. Ultimately, the real clincher for us is the weight, or lack thereof. Instead of leaving it in the office – as we tend to do with our older, heavier White MacBook – undoubtedly, we'd be carrying the MacBook Air around with us and using it, pretty much all of the time.

Although Wi-Fi is still its main means of connecting to networks or the internet, you now get a USB Ethernet adaptor in the box, should you need a wired connection. Trading power for portability and connectivity for convenience means the MacBook Air will never be a machine for everyone, but improved specs at a lower price can only be welcomed. EN→ITIf what strikes you about the MacBook Air is that it's overpriced and underpowered, it isn't the laptop for you. It's hobbled by having only a single USB port. Its processor is slow and it's locked into 2GB of RAM. There's no FireWire, no optical drive and the only way to connect to an ethernet network is via an included USB adapter. But if the specs that matter most to you are light weight and small size, the MacBook Air is ideal. These new models aren't much faster than their predecessors - the high-end system is actually slower than the previous model - but they're cheaper.

EN→ITWhen Steve Jobs first pulled the Apple MacBook Air out of a manila envelope, the laptop Apple touted as the world's thinnest instantly turned media pundits into starry-eyed zealots. At that point, no one knew what features it had, what parts it ran, or even its price—just that, suddenly, the Air was a must-have. Yet the limitations that came to light after the Air's announcement tarnished its luster. After all, it was the only laptop in its class with a single USB port and a non-removable battery, and many features found in other laptops were absent. One only assumed that better things were yet to come. Earlier this year, the Apple MacBook Air (Nvidia 9400M GT) ($1,799 direct) rolled out silently behind the MacBook 13-inch (Aluminum) and the MacBook Pro 15-inch (Dual Graphics). The Apple MacBook Air (Nvidia 9400M GT) is a specimen of unsurpassable beauty, but upgrades of a few parts internally won't be enough to win over converts to Mac.

EN→ITThe updated version of Apple’s strikingly thin and strong ultraportable adds plenty of graphics punch, but its battery life is too short. If you were hesitant to pull the trigger on the original MacBook Air because of the short battery life and limited port selection, Apple hasn’t done much to win you over with the latest version. Road warriors who require good endurance should pass, but the addition of Nvidia’s GeForce 9400M GPU and a larger, faster SSD may prove enticing for those looking for extra performance in a sexy, thin package. If you don’t mind a little more bulk, the latest 13-inch, 4.5-pound MacBook Air is a much better deal, because it offers nearly 5 hours of runtime, easily accessible ports, and the same graphics punch for hundreds of dollars less.

EN→ITWe still have reservations about the MacBook Air. The improved graphics performance does make it feel a lot smoother and more responsive than before. However, it’s still very expensive, and design decisions such as the non-replaceable battery just seem extremely short-sighted. Yet, for all its limitations, the sheer quality of the design shines through. It’s not just the look of the machine that matters – the feel of it is important too. Being able to balance the laptop lightly in the palm of one hand, or to simply snap the lid shut and pick it up the way you would with an ordinary A4 notepad really does make it enormously convenient and comfortable to use - and we did not, as one of our esteemed colleagues suggests, feel like a tit while doing so.

EN→ITIf the first MacBook Air was a revolutionary take on the Apple laptop line, this is an evolutionary step - which is exactly what you'd expect from a second-generation release. Aesthetically, the two generations are virtually the same; technologically, the new one offers a speed boost and better storage options at a better price than when the Air debuted. Having said that, if you don't think you need the ultimate in thinness and style - and to my eye, this really is the ultimate in the looks department - do yourself a favour and check out the new MacBook while you're comparison-shopping. Sure, it's chunkier - compared with the Air, just about everything is - and heavier at 4.5lb. But it's faster, offers more storage and is more expandable. Oh, and it's cheaper.

EN→ITUnlike the first time around, the SSD Air is the one we’d recommend. Yes, it’s considerably more than its HDD counterpart, but its impact on performance is what makes the second-generation MacBook Air such a pleasure to use. If budget is such a consideration as to make the SSD upgrade impossible, we’d steer you instead to the MacBook, which can now compete (if not best) the Air in style. The Air remains Apple’s niche road-warrior option; now those owners can spend more time battling the competition than their notebook. If you fit the profile, you won’t be disappointed.

EN→ITLet's start with the basics. The Air is the best looking MacBook ever, and as far as I'm concerned, one of the best looking notebooks in general. Apple designed it with fashion-minded people in mind and it did a marvelous job. The good looks come at a price, but many people will be more than happy to sacrifice USBs, Ethernet and an optical drive to enjoy Apple's latest toy. So, what are the drawbacks? Lack of ports springs to mind first. There's no optical drive, either, meaning you have to cough up an additional $99 for an external SuperDrive and that hurts. No Ethernet ? Some people won't really mind, but others will.

EN→ITThe public reaction to the MacBook Air has been fascinating. Our original conclusion could probably be boiled down to “it's good for people it's good for, and not for people it's not” – this appeared to be a Rorschach test for readers, since we've received praise from MacBook Air critics and fans alike. Across the internet we've seen similar reactions, with some users embracing the product despite its compromises, and others attacking it as a product with no purpose other than to part fools from their money. Not wishing to sound like a broken record, but how you see the Air has a lot to do with your priorities. For some, the Air's lack of a swappable battery and its underpowered processor make it a terrible value proposition – like paying for black on a MacBook. We take the point, but have to disagree. For us, the value of dropping down a kilo in weight will make all the difference when on the move.

EN→ITThe sealed unit approach means the battery is an integral part of the machine and there's no clear path for upgrading the memory or hard drive. This may work for an MP3 player, which isn't critical to your work, however, for a machine to be used for business, can you really afford to send it back to Apple when it needs updating? In field tests, where we actually took the MacBook Air out and used it until the battery died, we found it lasted for 153 minutes, which is fine for the morning commute, but isn't going to see you through a day's work. When connected to a wireless network, this dropped to 137 minutes to reflect the chipsets further power drain. The Apple MacBook Air is a fantastic looking laptop and a joy to use, but there are simply too many sacrifices.

EN→ITThe Air is a 'love it or loathe it' machine, but don't let the naysayers put you off if it offers the form factor you prefer. Of course it's not going to be the laptop to suit everyone - you can buy cheaper or more capable Macs and PCs - so it's not a must have for the price-conscious buyer or the power-hungry. It's pricey, but with the exception of the tiny, basic Eee, the Air's no more expensive than other slim'n'light laptops. If form-factor is your prime concern, then the Air provides a good computing experience, and if our time with it is anything to go by, its port and optical disc limitations proved no handicap at all. Again, if you think they're going to be, there are plenty of other laptops out there that'll meet your needs instead. Of course, if you want to run Mac OS X on a thin'n'light machine, this is really your only option.

EN→ITAs a portable computer, it excels in many areas that others can’t – such as having a large screen, full-sized keyboard and decent processing power – while staying ultra lightweight. But the exclusion of an optical disc drive, limitations of Remote Disc, and lack of a user-replaceable battery, are shortcomings that will be difficult to ignore for most notebook users. We also find the Air more suited as a secondary device to a desktop machine because it depends so much on having another computer through which to install new applications. Despite that, we feel it represents a step in the right direction towards making notebooks more portable. We hope the next version comes with a built-in optical drive; we don’t think we are ready to give up on that peripheral just yet.

EN→ITThere are always numerous factors to take into consideration when evaluating a laptop, but the problem with the Air is that it introduces several intangible factors that we have never encountered when reviewing PCs. Like other Apple products such as the iPhone, the Air is so beautiful and easy to use that we found ourselves becoming one of those Mac people who fall in “love” with the Apple product. It has undeniable appeal, and even us lifelong PC users were not only impressed with its performance and usability but felt drawn to it like we are to our iPhone. EN→ITAll-in-all, the Air is a decent Notebook with an incredible design but not one for me. Its a bit lacking in features and performance and for version 2 of Air (does that sound weird?), I would recommend Apple to add a Gigabit Ethernet port, increase the display resolution and lose the glossiness as well as use a dedicated GPU to process graphics. A faster hard drive would be nice too but I'm sure that SSDs will decease in price. Also, CPU speeds keep going up so that wont be an issue. Yes, I might be asking too much but I am a demanding user. And from that prespective, the Air is not for everyone- especially as their primary computer. I feel that its a steup-up from MacBook so if thats what you're eyeing at or want to upgrade from a PowerPC based notebook, then you'll be more than happy with Air. However, if you're a Mac Pro or MacBook Pro type of person, you'll still fall in love at first sight but probably get over the honeymoon within two weeks time and start craving for more.

EN→ITApple says that the Macbook Air is a ‘no compromise ultra-portable laptop’. That’s certainly true in some ways: the unit measures less than 2cm thick (0.76in) at its thickest point, and even the somewhat-miffed Sony hasn’t really disputed Apple’s claim that this is the ‘thinnest laptop in the world’. Sony does win on weight as its Vaio TZ weighs just 1.24kg, compared to the Macbook’s 1.36kg. However, the Macbook Air has a bigger screen – 13.3in compared to 11.1in for the Vaio. Ultimately, though, Apple’s engineers know that there’s more to good design than just a spec-sheet full of numbers. The ultra-portable design is impressive, but comes at a cost in terms of limited performance and connectivity.

On one hand they offer a super thin, lightweight design, but on the other they take away ports and give you a permanent battery. EN→ITThe $1,300 question is whether the SSD is worth the extra cash. The answer seems to be no. I experienced only moderate gains in battery life and not very noticeable speed differences. The one major benefit of the SSD model is that it doesn't cause the same types of slowdowns as the HDD model during times of high disk activity, and that's certainly a huge plus. Speedy read times are great, too, but they are balanced out by pokey write times. Still, even if it's more usable, it's hard to justify the huge price difference for the SSD model. If you've got an extra $1,300 to blow and, for some reason, haven't just bought a second computer with it, perhaps the SSD model is for you. For anyone else looking to buy an Air, the HDD model appears to provide the most bang for the buck.

EN→ITIf your weight requirements extend to 4-pounds and under, then the MacBook Air is not best of breed. The Sony VAIO VGN-SZ791N and the Lenovo ThinkPad X61 are now the favorites. For those who pre-ordered already and were sold as soon as Jobs whipped out the manila folder, the MacBook Air is hands down the thinnest and prettiest laptop in the market. The MacBook Air is officially the thinnest laptop, and the lightest of those with a 13-inch screen. But there were compromises that had to be made.

EN→ITAs a piece of engineering, the MacBook Air is impressive and Apple should be commended for getting all that tech into a device that is so thin. Up close and personal it's very impressive and makes our 6-month old MacBook Pro look like someone from Fat Camp. So why aren't we getting all excited about it as much as we should? Well for us it comes down to that non-replaceable battery. What's the point of having a portable device if you have to be within 5 hours of a power supply. Granted 5 hours is a long time and Apple suggest that if you opt for the SSD option you'll get even longer, but the inability to be able to replace the battery on the fly is a deal breaker for us. It might be fine when you first get it out of the box, but what happens in 2 years time when you've got to take it back to Apple because the battery is giving you below par performance?

EN→ITThinner is better. At least, that's what Apple seems to think, judging by the new MacBook Air. It's so thin you could use it to shave. In fact, the 11-inch version is the most portable laptop we've ever encountered, even taking netbooks into account. The 11-inch Apple MacBook Air is remarkably thin and really enjoyable to use.

EN→ITThere is little to complain about with the MacBook Air 11-inch. It is, in a word, spectacular. It delivers performance in a package that is surprisingly complete and this, coupled with the design, makes the £1020 for the model reviewed here almost justifiable. Of course, that’s still expensive by any standards and there’s no avoiding the fact that you can get a new MacBook Pro, which is more powerful in all directions, for less money (and an SSD version of that starts from £1199). But the MacBook Air isn’t about affordability, it’s about making a statement, it’s about travelling light without having to sacrifice power and design. It won’t suit every taste and the lack of optical drive and connections will make the MacBook Air impractical for many, but you can’t help marvelling at it.

EN→ITApple's MacBook Air 11-inch is an impressive achievement in technology. The laptop is thinner and lighter than any netbook on the market but provides superior performance. Of course, at $999 it is much more expensive but less than the past base MacBook Air. Compared to other ultraportables, it does sacrifice performance, storage and running time to provide its ultrathin profile.

EN→ITIn fact, you can throw more at it than you might imagine. With an Nvidia GeForce 320M discrete chip inside, the MacBook Air eased through our Crysis test at native resolution, averaging 36fps at Low quality settings. Full HD MKVs played smoothly, as did 720p clips on YouTube. It even managed a little video editing, smoothly previewing three HD clips simultaneously in CyberLink PowerDirector. While we wouldn't recommend the Air to enthusiasts, it can do a perfectly good job with home movies.

It`s one of those things that you fall in love with at first sight and even when you decided to wipe that drool off your face and look deeper below the aluminum skin it still manages to impress. The price may seem steep at first but as we keüt saying throught the review, for the kind of engineering that has gone into making the device what it is, we think its well worth it.

EN→ITUnlike a netbook, the 11in MacBook Air will rarely keep you waiting. A 5-hour-plus battery is good, running longer in the Air’s native Mac OS X. And measured statistics don’t show what a delight the 11in is to hold and work with. A perfect carry-anywhere notebook? Not quite – a 3G modem’s absence is becoming embarrassing, while the screen resolution is just beyond the comfort level. Elsewhere, we have to give due credit. As an exceedingly compact notebook – or a dear netbook – that will happily and snappily run OS X, Linux or Windows, the MacBook Air 11in is the category’s new gold standard.

EN→ITThe first Macbook Air, released in 2008, was a computer that could be sold on style as well as processing power. The new model continues that theme: it's a well-designed laptop, thin, lightweight and beautifully engineered. Samsung's Q330 is a Windows laptop with similar processing power, and though it may be less stylish, it's nearly half the price. If you don't need the Mac looks, a cheaper model is better value.

EN→ITThe MacBook Air 11.6-inch laptop is a beautiful laptop and a treat to carry around and use. It’s of course not perfect, and the one thing that prevents it from being a sure fire recommendation is all of the great competition out there for 11.6-inch laptops that are much cheaper. For instance, you can get the Acer Aspire 1830t with a Core i3 processor and more ports for $699. The Dell Inspiron M101z and HP Pavilion dm1z and Toshiba Satellite T215 are all also attractively priced at around $500 - $650. If you need more power than the MacBook Air in an 11.6” form factor there’s also the Alienware m11x. All that competition though and the MacBook Air still reigns as the most drool worthy and well constructed of all these in the 11-inch laptop category. The aluminum unicast body is extremely solid feeling and the feather light weight just amazing. The screen on the MacBook Air 11 also stands out against any of the competition. In conclusion, I do recommend the MacBook Air 11.6-inch to students that happen to have a little extra money and can warrant paying a premium for the Apple brand, quality and support. I think most students are going to have to step up to the 128GB storage version to fit all the programs and files you’ll need when in school, so that means you’re looking at a price of around $1,199. The 4GB memory upgrade is probably worth the extra $100 but the processor upgrade to 1.60Ghz is not worth it. If you’re on a budget and can’t justify the cost of the MacBook Air 11, at least you’re in luck with all the other options out there, and if you can afford the MacBook Air 11 then consider yourself lucky and in for a treat!

EN→ITApple's MacBook Air isn't for everyone; its modest specifications, limited ports and relatively small storage will disappoint some. Apple claims that the MacBook Air's battery life is five hours; it lasted 4 hours and 27 minutes in our battery rundown test, where we looped an XviD file in full screen mode. Just like the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air has a non-removable lithium-polymer battery.

EN→ITWith the late 2010 release, the MacBook Air leaves behind its novelty image and becomes a genuine rival to the entry-level MacBook and MacBook Pro. It has a power that belies its on-paper clock speed, a gorgeous screen and with its new battery and energy-saving technology, instant-on convenience. We miss the backlit keyboard, though, and hope it returns in the next generation of MacBook Airs. It's still pretty expensive too, with the range starting at £849 and this particular model costing £999. It might not be a notebook for everybody, but if you want something that's powerful, convenient and portable, it just might be the notebook for you.

EN→ITAs much as the MacBook Air is a beautiful machine, you really do have to think carefully before buying one. There are myriad alternative laptops that are no less portable, and that almost universally offer better specs than the 11in Air. If, therefore, you’re the kind of person that cares purely about what you physically get for your money, this isn’t the system for you. However, if you think value is in more than just the price, have the money to burn, and want an ultra-portable laptop that, as well as being capable of performing all he every day tasks you throw at it, makes you feel satisfied just to have used it, then you should definitely consider an 11in MacBook Air.

EN→ITThe 11in MacBook Air is an impressively slender, lightweight laptop with a large, comfortable keyboard, a bright screen and long battery life. If you can afford it, it’s a good choice if you want an ultra-portable laptop that’s more capable than a netbook. However, the 13in MacBook Air remains our favourite ultra-portable laptop. I do think I would like one of these for Christmas, however in my Country the 128 GB version doesn’t go for $1299 like in the States (or even less on Amazon, where it it slightly discounted) , but more like 1500 euro, which is just too much. EN→ITWhile there is something about the Apple/Microsoft dichotomy that seems to bring out the worst in tech aficionados, it's hard to deny that the new MacBook Airs, especially the smaller, 11.6-inch model, have style. Holding one makes it easy to believe Apple's rhetoric about the future of computing: all solid state, no optical drives, no power cycling, standby times and more. Despite the fact that it's pretty, and useful, and even pretty useful, it's still an Apple laptop. That means that buying into the MacBook Air means paying a little Apple tax - especially noticeable when compared to alternatives such as the Alienware M11x or Acer TimelineX 1830T. EN→ITThe 11-inch dynamo, the smallest and lightest laptop in Apple history, the one with the £849 price tag, is quite possibly the most desirable laptop Apple has ever made. The release of the iPad made me wonder if I’d consider a Mac laptop as my constant travelling companion ever again; the release of the 11-inch MacBook Air proves that there’s still plenty of life left in the Mac after all.

EN→ITOne of the things Apple made big deal of at the launch of the new MacBook Airs was their use of flash memory, which provides weight, size, and performance benefits over hard drives. While a fair degree of this was rhetoric, what was clear from our quick play is that despite a relatively slow CPU, the 11.6in Air felt really snappy. While it certainly won't be replacing your desktop for gaming and video editing tasks, it felt more than adequate for day to day activities.

EN→ITI really like the form factor of the 11-inch MacBook Air. It's great to carry around. It's like an iPad for people who have to get real work done. I just wish it was faster. If Intel made a 32nm Core 2 Duo, clocked high enough the 11 would be perfect. I guess that’s what Atom is eventually supposed to be, but right now the performance is just too low. EN→ITThe new 11.6-inch version of the MacBook Air kills both birds with one stone, as the smallest current Apple laptop (there were 12-inch PowerBook models as recently as five years ago), and also lowering the entry price to $999, coincidentally, the same as the white basic 13-inch MacBook. Apple makes the MacBook Air both smaller and less expensive, creating an excellent ultraportable, but leaving out a few features along the way.

EN→ITOn the surface the MacBook Air looks like an expensive option compared to Apple's MacBook Pro that you get off the shelf. In fact, at a quick glance the difference is over £500, but to be fair, the off the shelf MacBook Pro doesn't come with the flash storage; an optional upgrade that adds £640 to the price tag. Factor that in and the MacBook Pro's pricing starts to become more realistic considering the lack of optical drive and ports like the Ethernet and FireWire. So what you are actually getting is a fair deal, an expensive one agreed, but it's that move to SSD that is the expensive element here, not necessarily Apple just ripping you off. When we reviewed the first MacBook Air in February 2008 we slammed it. Why? Because it was overly expensive and it was too ahead of its time when it came to losing the Ethernet socket; all of that, combined with an average battery life, meant we felt it was a model that was never destined to leave the house.

EN→ITHowever, if you’re the type who doesn’t mind using Windows, we can’t justify purchasing the 11-inch Air versus a netbook. A netbook on average costs $300 to $500 and isn’t much worse than the Air when it comes down to what you’ll be using it for — less work, more play. An Air will cost you at least double the amount of a netbook, and unfortunately it doesn’t deliver twice the performance.

EN→ITThe previous MacBook Air was most comfortable browsing and playing video, but Apple is positioning the 2010 model as more of an all-round machine. Still, the updated CPU and GPU do at least stand a better chance for more mobile graphics crunching. We ran Geekbench on our test unit, an entry-level 11.6-inch Air with the 1.4GHz processor and 2GB of memory, and it scored 2261. That’s actually a couple hundred points less than the previous-gen 1.86GHz Air we reviewed in 2008, though it’s worth noting that model was selling for a huge $2,499 compared to the $999 of today’s version. More importantly, perhaps, is how the CPU and GPU work together, and we have a real-world example to illustrate it. We took a quick day trip in and out of San Francisco this week to meet with HP; knowing that the story was going to be under embargo, we wouldn’t really need a laptop since we woudn’t be processing videos and images until we got back. As such, no need for the usual MacBook Pro, right? The obvious device of choice to take on the road is the iPad.

EN→ITSo am I tempted to toss £849 on an 11.6in Air? As a lover of small, slim, lightweight computers, I sure am. The problem is that, since performance is inevitably limited by form-factor in this and all similar sized machines, it's not going to be radically better than my year-old Acer Aspire Timeline 1810TZ, which, incidentally, can deliver 50 per cent more battery life than the Air and has Gigabit Ethernet, a third USB port and a SD card slot. But it's also heavier and considerably thicker. And it runs Windows 7. I could hackintosh it, but those who have report that not all the parts work under Mac OS X, in particular the Wi-Fi and sleep mode, two features I rely on. Yes, there will always be a comparably sized machine that's cheaper and/or more featured than the 11.6in Air, but you'll be hard pushed to find one as good looking and a sheer bloody portable. And as anyone who, like me, has dropped an Air before, that aluminium casing can't half take some punishment.

EN→ITApple said it would never make a netbook, and it hasn't. The 11-inch MacBook Air is a powerful ultraportable that makes other systems in its class look positively bloated. More important, this machine never keeps you waiting, thanks to the way it uses flash memory. We just wish the hinge for the display were a bit tighter to prevent unwanted movement. Some may prefer the new 13-inch MacBook Air ($1,299), which offers a higher-resolution screen, faster CPU, and a SD Card slot. If you're torn between Windows and Mac, the $899 Acer Timeline 1830T offers a much faster Core i7 processor and longer battery life but integrated graphics and a much less compelling design. The screen is bright enough that even with sun shining through the window it was viewable despite being a glossy screen. The keyboard is comfortable enough to type even in a bumpy car. The size is perfect for pulling the computer out of the bag even in cramped spaces. EN→ITBut if none of these features are deal-breakers, the 2011 Macbook Air is the best ultraportable, nay laptop, in the land for day-to-day computing. Its combination of lightning speed, slim profile and the gesture-tastic Mac OS X Lion mean it melds the benefits of tablets (portability, usability) with the power of traditional laptops. And, to top it all, it's an incredibly lovely thing. We recommend adopting one as soon as financially possible.

EN→ITBuy one now. Really, it’s that good. Even if you’re not a Mac OS X person, but want a super-strong, impossibly thin yet powerful 13” ultraportable to run Windows, it’s hard to beat the 13” Thunderbolt Macbook Air. It’s capable enough to be your primary laptop unless you’re a serious 3D gamer, is gorgeous looking and has enough ports to get by on. Paired with Apple’s expensive Thunderbolt Display, it can even become a desktop replacement with Ethernet, FireWire 800 and additional USB ports. Battery life is excellent, instant-resume from standby is a joy and the SSD drive means no moving parts and better speed, and it comes with the impressive new Mac OS X Lion.

EN→ITThe 2011 MacBook Air addresses nearly every concern anyone could lob at its predecessor. It's still light on ports, the missing SD slot on the 11-inch model is a drag, and no, it isn't cheap, but this machine is fast, efficient, and not to be underestimated. It's a supermodel with a law degree from Columbia, a hunky motorcycle racer who looks good in leathers yet is also a concert pianist -- whatever your passion it won't disappoint, all while making a lot more room in your bag.

EN→ITIn short, that difficult decision between prioritizing portability and performance has pretty much been made for you: the MacBook Air grants you both. Build-quality is reassuringly strong, speed and performance are sufficient for most users, and the ability to drop the Air into a bag and hardly notice it’s in there is a huge advantage. In 13.3-inch form it’s a little more expensive than the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro (and you get a slower processor, less storage and no optical drive), but we’d wager the Air could still hold its own. Altogether, the MacBook Air remains our ultraportable of choice.

EN→ITWith the MacBook Air 13-inch (Thunderbolt), Apple did what it had to do to recapture some of the momentum it lost when the MacBook Pros and its Windows counterparts migrated over to the latest Intel components. Putting in the Core i5 processor, upping the standard memory configuration to 4GB, and having a new graphics subsystem translate into a significant performance improvement over the previous Air 13-inch. That and adding a Thunderbolt port, bringing back the backlit keyboard, and the timely release of Mac OS X Lion will surely make it a formidable player in the ultraportable space. But if its looks haven't seduced you yet, your money will go a lot further with the Toshiba Portege R835-P50X and Acer Aspire AS3830TG-6431.

When you combine a sleek ultraportable design with a great display and touchpad then nearly double the performance--without sacrificing battery life--you're left with a winner. You also get an improved backlit keyboard, Thunderbolt support, and the more powerful and versatle Mac OS X Lion. The 13-inch Air is also a better deal than the Samsung Series 9, which costs $50 more when you configure it with the same amount of flash memory. EN→ITThe Air was derided when it was first launched, and to some extent, rightly so. It was too slow and an example of form over function. With the 2011 refresh, Apple has managed to keep the remarkable form, but also add some internals that make this more than just a rich person's plaything. Now, the Air is an excellent day-to-day laptop, and one that we think most people will find more than adequate for their needs. Unless those needs are crunching the data that comes out of the CERN supercollider. If nothing else, Intel's Ultrabook specification proves that Apple had the right idea when it first launched the Air. There is demand for these small laptops, and it's possible to build them and make them objects of desire while remaining useful.

EN→ITAlthough it's technically a draw, the MacBook Air wins out in key areas of performance, interface and connectivity. The laptop is definitely the better option for productivity on the move, and can be used in an office because it has excellent specifications. Those who just want to browse the internet on the move would be better suited to the iPad 2. We recommend buying a Wi-Fi-only iPad 2 and using the extra money to invest in a mobile phone contract with a generous data allowance. The tablet can be tethered to the smartphone when Wi-Fi is not available, and this will save on having to pay two separate contracts. Given the choice, V3 definitely opts for the laptop over the tablet, as it is so much more useful and is definitely worth the extra investment. WINNER- MacBook Air.

Its styling and build are unrivalled, it has plenty enough performance for everyday computing, it'll at least half a working day on battery, and the improvements to MacOSX make it a lovely system to use. It's certainly a fine laptop, with plenty of features you'll only get from Apple, like outstanding design, a highly refined multitouch trackpad, and OS X Lion. But you'll have to sacrifice several features that come standard on other 11-inch laptops, like all-day battery life, an Ethernet port, SD card reader, and significant storage space. The Editors' Choice Alienware M11xr3 and Lenovo X120e provide all these features, with superior performance to boot. EN→ITWhen the new 13-inch MacBook Air arrived on our messy desks, we were blown away by its razor-thin good looks and equally impressed by its powerful interiors. Apple's latest iteration of the 11-inch MacBook air packs excellent performance inside a razor-thin body. Its high price and sparse port selection means it won't appeal to everyone though.

EN→ITOver the years we’ve tirelessly sought after the ultimate marriage of portability and power. Apple’s first MacBook Air was just too weedy and too expensive. Asus never quite managed to deliver with its low price, tiny Eee PCs, in truth because Intel’s Atom processors were just a false economy. MSI’s X-Slim range were as flimsy as they were thin.

EN→ITIf you're buying the high-end ($1199) 11-inch MacBook Air and care about performance, the 1.8GHz CPU upgrade is worth it. You shouldn't expect any real impact on battery life in normal use but you'll see a noticeable gain in performance across the board. Subjectively the CPU upgrade does make the system snappier, easily faster than the base 13-inch MacBook Air.

NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (G) / ION (LE): Scheda grafica integrata a memoria condivisa.
