EN→ITSlim and sleek for a 15.6in laptop, and good-looking too, but the Timeline 5810T just falls short of a recommendation. The Timeline 5810T's biggest problem, though, is the competition. It may have good battery life, ergonomics and surprising portability for such a large-screened laptop, but others here are capable of putting in a more intensive shift, and we can't recommend the 5810T.

Although you’re not going to use the 5810T to edit video or play the latest games, it’s more than adequate for watching a DVD and performing other everyday tasks. The MSI X600 provides more muscle in an equally svelte system, but that notebook costs $250 more and omits an optical drive. Despite the 5810T’s low benchmark scores, its light weight and long battery life make it one of the most portable 15.6-inch notebook on the market—and at $548, one of the most affordable, too.

Overall this is a nice, reasonably powerful laptop, whose light weight and large battery life means it is a great companion for working on in the great outdoors.

Some of the best battery-life we've seen on a 15.6in laptop joins superb build quality, intelligent design and good ergonomics to form a generally well-specified laptop that is only held back in intensive usage and HD entertainment by its single-core Core 2 Solo CPU. It's still a decent laptop, but if true portability is what you're after, you're better off with the 14in or 13.3in models in the Timeline range.

It’s usefully light, has a great range of practical features such as 802.11n wireless, DVD writer, USB ports aplenty and digital video out. The 15.6in widescreen display belies the notebook’s weight of just 2.3kg, and with a power efficient dual-core processor at its heart, it runs at over twice the speed of the fastest netbook so can actually chew on creative tasks. But best of all is that remarkable battery life figure of over nine hours of real productivity. Finally we have an affordable all-purpose laptop we can carry anywhere – and leave the charger at home for the day.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Scheda grafica intregrata basata sul chipset GM45 (Montevina). Più performante rispetto alla vecchia GMA X3100 grazie ha due shader in più ed ad un clock più elevato. Rimane, comunque, non consigliata per i giocatori più incalliti. Il processore video integrato è capace di codificare video HD (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2). Ad esempio permette la riproduzione di video HD compatibile con i requisiti del logo Blu-Ray, con il supporto nativo per unità Blu-Ray.
La maggior parte dei giochi attuali può essere giocata in modo fluido. Ma preparatevi ad una riduzione delle presentazioni grafiche considerando le impostazioni di dettaglio basse e la risoluzione limitata. Tuttavia, queste schede forniscono ancora abbastanza potenza per le applicazioni da ufficio e la proiezioni di video (ma non per i video HD).

Intel Core 2 Duo: Questo è il successore del Core Duo e del Core Solo con una pipeline più lunga ed il 5-20% di velocità in più senza avere maggiore consumo di energia. Come aggiunta al design del Core Duo esiste un quarto decoder, una unità amplificata SSE ed una unità logica aritmetica (ALU) addizionale. Il Core 2 Duo per portatili è identico al processore per desktop Core 2 Duo ma il processore per portatili lavora con un voltaggio inferiore (0.95 a 1188 Volt) ed un Frontside bus clock inferiore (1066 vs 667 MHz). Le prestazioni di portatili con clock equivalenti sono inferiori del 20-25% rispetto ai PCs Desktop a causa del Frontside bus clock inferiore e agli hard disks più lenti.
SU9400: Processore a risparmio energetico a basso voltaggio basato sul core Penryn 3M che sfrutta tutte le funzioni Penryn come la virtualizzazione e la Trusted Execution.

15.6": La variante di display da 15 pollici rientra tra lo standard ed è utilizzata da più della metà di tutti i portatili. I display da 15.4 pollici in 16:10 sono lo standard per i portatili. Attualmente, sempre più appaiono i displays 16:9 da 15.6 pollici. Lo svantaggio è che la lettura di testi è estenuante per gli occhi. Risoluzioni elevate difficilmente potranno essere utilizzate.
